Barb.......sad part is there are lots of people buying GSD based on color, size, coat, etc......just take a browse through kiji adds not sure what it is like in your area but in my area it is nuts. I can bet you look again in 6 - 7 months a lot of these puppies are posted again "free to good home" because these people did not do their research.

That is one of the reasons I refuse to change my cell # from FL to NC, though I've lived here for almost 5 yrs. What if someone needed to contact me regarding any of the dogs I've sold or placed......

Vonissk (where is that darn sarcasm font??) I should stud out my rare black male who IS OFA Good, elbows normal, DM N/N, AKC CD, Sch BH AD for a stack o cash. Maybe he'll produce sable too, since he has some sable family members Roll eyes LOL Why am I still dog poor????

I saw the advert about a week ago, but I'm just not one to start threads bashing anyone or causing any drama... I'm hormonal, in terrible sciatic pain so taking it easy. Bad me, <smacks hand> Oh well. People need to do some homework before they purchase.

I know its not PC, but we seem to have no objection to paying for a car with metallic color or a house with certain options...so why do you care if someone charges more for a black puppy. Sometime back, black sables with racoon eyes were in demand, or Bomber pups, or XX pups, or hula hoops... and so it goes.
- How is choosing a black puppy any different from a "first choice" pick which may be based on some other criteria.
- I agree line breeding for one color can be bad...but why is charging more for black color bad ?....dont we live in a capitalist economy..

Hah, there is a 'breeder' in this area that sells her black pups for a couple hundred LESS..... She breeds for the 'classic' GSD look. Roll eyes And of course, no one around here believes that solid black GSD's are even possible, so...

Seems to be a fad to be capitalized upon, I agree.

I recently spoke with a breeder that has a litter advertised here, she has 3 pups, one is black/tan and the other two black/red, and she's pricing the "plain" black/tan for less than the two black/reds, when I asked her why the price difference in the pups she simply said "because the black/reds are in more "demand"  so why would you price the litter for different amounts just due to their color/markings?  Odd indeed.

@ guddu Thumbs Up Thumbs Up You are 100% correct.

What is unusual I think, is that it is supposedly a breeder of Workinglines selecting for color, this time. Usually it is the criticism of the Showlines breeders, to select for color. You know... color shouldn't matter if the dog can work type of thing.

Weird conclusion - What makes a breeder reputable and ethical is their practices - not the lines they breed.
