I see Coastal has already talked to the breeder, and apparently it wasn't a productive conversation. Grr. Maybe Danno's former co-owners will help him.

People never cease to amaze me.

OK, Coastal has committed to the shelter that they WILL save this dog, so now they need someone who can either foster him, or adopt him outright. The longer this dog has to stay in the shelter, the more he's going to be stressed, and the more he's stressed, the more at risk he is for picking up something...canine influenza, a hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, etc. Can anyone nearby there take him even for just a few days, to get him out of there?

Someone that would deliberately take a decision NOT to help a dog and see it die as 'payback' is not someone that I would want to see have a dog anyway. It isn't the soul of someone who actually cares about dogs, nobody who had any true empathy for dogs could ever think that way.
So glad to see that someone is going to help this old lad.

Shelley..!! thanks for posting.. if I were still there I would take him in a heartbeat!! The older 'souls' need a place of peace and happiness in their last years.. This is horrible!! It's not like you haven't irritated anyone before.
. but in the dog world.. the dogs come first not petty issues.. We are grown ups that move past it, and get the crap done!! Way to go! you still have eagle eyes for those in need!! Miss you girl! sherry

I posted on the other thread before I saw this one. If your thinking about adopting a dog but worried because of age, I can tell you that I took in a 10 yo in April and this dog I have is one of the NICEST dogs Ive had in quite some time. So nice in fact, that I decided to keep him.
Too bad the breeder failed the dog, like so many do. This IS just the time when the public finds out just what breeders are made of. Sad :(
To Alamance nice to see what your also made of. Shelley wasnt posting for herself but FOR THE DOG in another rescue. I hope you don't adopt the dog now that everyone gets to see who you are.

If we can find a way to get him up to Seattle, he can spend his retirement living on the farm with my guys.

Has anyone contacted Rachel at Von Salerno? I don't necessarily believe she should be held responsible but she owned the sire of this dog and I would want to know if the progeny of my dogs ended up in a shelter. I have known of breeders who rescued dogs that were from their bloodlines but were not bred by them.

Markobytes, Coastal contacted her yesterday, and I called her as well. I got a message from Rachelle today, and she said Coastal will be pulling Danno Monday, and she'll be picking him up from them later that day unless Coastal already has an adopter set to take him. So he's got a safe haven, and now he needs the right adoptive home where he can securely spend his days being loved and having this confusing experience pushed into the recesses of his mind. The adoption will be done through Coastal, so they can screen the applicants to ensure that his next stop will REALLY be his 'forever' home.
My regards to Rachelle Salerno, Von Salerno GSDs, for stepping in to see that a son of her Zathan isn't just discarded like an used paper plate.
Edited to add: And as always, continued respect and appreciation to Coastal GSD Rescue for being there for these guys!
Edited again to add: Not for nothing, but the shelter Danno was dropped off at deserves some love from folks, too: THEY'RE the ones who contact rescues to let them know when adoptable dogs are brought in, and they aren't "high kill" shelters by choice--they can only humanely house so many animals at one time, and sadly each day almost always bring more in as strays or surrenders than they see going home with their present or new families. They aren't the bad guys in these stories--and they'd be more than happy to find themselves out of business because there was no longer a need for such facilities.
