Well, for instance. If you have a "hot dog", such as one plagued with allergies, it would not be wise to feed lamb and venison or trout. This might be more acceptable in the winter time I suppose, when a "hot dog" would only be "lukewarm", but an allergy irritated dog would be fed something cold or just neutral, like beef or salmon. I usually buy a lamb based kibble for Mojo... who can get yeasty ears.... so I am just thinking, maybe I might try a different protein for him? See what happens? Hmmm?
There are neutral foods, too, and according to this article, beef and salmon are neutral. Good thing for Beau, I think he's a neutral dog.
There was one chart talking about the "phlegmy" dog. And one sign was a greasy, doggy smelling coat. It was a bit weird, that my son had just mentioned a friend's rottie, and how he didn't like to touch their dog because of his unpleasant coat. (Not like our dogs, he said!
). I asked him, about the other symptoms attributed to a "phlegmy" dog, and strangely enough they were consistent.
Now, I wonder if I should mention something to this family about their potentially "phlegmy" dog! LOL... or just mind my own business!

Well Bee, it never hurts to mention it! My dogs do not do well with lamb, which I thought was a meat considered easy to digest. Kali couldn't tolerate it, & her daughters inherited that trait, & for some reason Beckett has issues with it too, even when I boil it plain. Since he's not related to the girls except as a GSD, is that a learned intolerance? Also Beckett won't eat raw food, he sniffs, wrinkles his nose & backs as far away from it as he can get, & looks at me like, "Seriously? There's something dead in my food dish, dude! It's all, like, slimy! Eeew!"

Jackie you just made me snort with laughter at your description of
Beckett's reaction to raw food ! Thank you so much for that ... I
needed a laugh, 'cos I'm coming down from the shock of Taz having
an argument with a car at lunchtime. The car lost ! Or maybe I did,
dunno how much the bill will come to. He took out the nearside front
light and bust the radiator, plus a few scratches to the wing and hood.
And walked away. With a scratched face and apparently no other
injuries - or at least the vet can't find any. Boy, but his ribs are going
to be SORE for a few days.

Ibrahim, you know I like a lively discussion .
Thanks.
Hundmutter,
How awful to hear of this sudden accident!
j Even though you say Taz is only scratched, it might be wise to provide a tonic to his blood should there be bruising. A marrow bone, sardines, or even an egg would be appropriate. He must be made of Iron, your dog!
Cars can be fixed at least, hope the insurance takes care of that for you.
Kalibeck,
I have two opposite eaters, it is hysterical because Beau just doesn't understand why Mojo won't eat the raw chcken with the gusto he does. And he literally will spit out a dog biscuit that Mojo gobbles down, as if to say, "What the heck is this cardboard you are trying to feed me?"
Oddly though, Mojo will go for the raw beef, or eggs any time, any where. It is a very rare day he will decide to eat a raw chicken leg... only the leg ... no other parts. The raw liver has to be chopped up, I can't give it whole... too much for either of them.
I can not for the life of me imagine any dog eating an artichoke, so some of the these foods on the list make me wonder!

Thank you, all of you. No Jackie I meant the drivers' bill so he does not
lose his No Claims Bonus - after all, he could do nothing to avoid it,
it was entirely my fault. I had Taz off lead, and as it worked out we
were too near the road. He is usually terribly good about roads &
traffic - but this time he suddenly got it into his head that he wasn't
going to stay on the (unfenced) Recreation Ground, he would go and
say Hello to the nice - but strange - lady & gentleman sitting minding
their own business in the beer garden of the pub opposite. He kinda
overlooked the fact he'd have to cross the road to do that; and I was a
split second too late in yelling at him. He was carried 40 feet down the
road by the impact. I ran after the car, went around it expecting to pick
up my dead dog, and there he was, looking dazed but on his feet. He
has been given the all-clear by the Vet, that only cost me a consultation
fee and a pain-killer injection. He is going to be sore and bruised but has
no apparent internal issues; he ate a small dinner and slept like a log all
evening, until I just woke him & took him out for a bedtime pee ten minutes
ago. Still walking on all 4 legs, no grumbling, no blood in his urine ... think
I may have to rename him 'Lucky' ! Phew...
He'll get a marrow bone tomorrow once I'm sure he can manage it, there's
one in the freezer.
