when people's mind gets corrupted, it will become distorted. And what started right will become wrong. Just a few example of these distortions, animal lover extremists thinks that people who eats meat are immoral, and maybe they forgot that we eat meat as far as we can imagine, since prehistoric times. Some show explicit videos, and photos of their selves and call them art. they also jump from bed to another bed because they are "free spirits".

What started right was the idea of a breed that retained or exceeded it's original use and the establishment of a system whereby it's temperament, structure, and working ability are tested and approved by a governing body before the animals are bred. The breed did not start perfected and what Kit Kat posted is an example of the evolution of the breed by it's founder.

Thank you Kitkat
It is my first time that I notice the incredible withers, long and well defined, these dogs had:
Horand
Roland
Klodo
I don't think today's GSD with best withers reaches half the length of withers those dogs had !!!
Do you notice work line has more defined withers than the show, or am I only imagining that !!!

Irrespective of the two photographs juxtaposed in the film
after Terry Hannan was interviewed, he was not speaking
about the 'working' dogs as most on this board know them.
[IE like that picture, based on lines direct from Germany and
Czech.] What he was referring to was our own UK "old style
GSDs", otherwise known as Alsatians.
Long, low, weak-backed, and full of nerves (and worse). These
dogs do NOT look like what most of you think of as working-
line GSDs. Whether you prefer the working structure you know,
to the dogs Hannan breeds and judges, and whether some or
all of those can be said to have 'roached' backs, is an entirely
separate argument. This is the sort of deliberately sown confusion
that was the trademark of "Pedigree Dogs Exposed", just one of
Jemima Harrison's examples in that film of twisting items to fit her
views.

Thanks Kitkat...I always enjoy reading and re-reading GSD history, always something to learn and revise.
Here's one other book, with history for GSD students. This is from the angelplace site

kitkat, thanks for informative post, me new to breed and like this. i also like getting a balanced perspective, seems capt. max was a crappy breeder and never trained a dog so how exactly did he become so esteemed, seems the nameless shepherds the likes he bought hector (no doubt paid less than he was worth) from and changed his name (seems voyeuristic to me) are the true founders of the breed. capt max just seems like another in the tradition slick talking non-hackers exploiting working people and working dogs from the fields and villages and creating one helluva not on-line game??
did he pay fair price for how ever many of the other dogs he got from the actual shepherds, what did he do with them when he was done with them?
tried to find out about his military service - did he see combat?
no expert here but like to delve into the history of the breed i have come to admire so much.
and no, not trolling, this is stuff i like to find out about.

Good questions

Guddu, I have been there and read that book, or at least most of it. It is "downloadable for anyone to have their own copy on their own computer: only about 200+ pages. I can recommend it. ecs

here the author foresaw or already seen the deterioration of the breed (p. 287) because of a defective breed standard. Now if you ask the orthopedics' opinion, they will tell you, they are structurally very wrong, same with structural engineers. They don't have soundness in structure, if they are a building, they will go crashing down in a slight earthquake. But some people will still defend them as right.
Twisted minds will make twisted standards, resulting to twisted legs.
