The  AKC/GSDCA select excellents would be the Va dogs, the selects, the V dogs -  in catalog order, not order of selection.

by Baveno GSD on 29 August 2013 - 12:08

Only the VA group will be in catalogue order, V Grades will be ranked V1, V2 etc.

by Blitzen on 29 August 2013 - 12:08

Correct.

just a bunch of BS to favour the big kennels who have friends in the SV board and are alway's consulted before a judge is asked just to make sure no big kennel has a problem whit that judge so they will keep the entry numbers high
plain and simple, it has nothing to do whith the health if they wanted to adress the health problems, they would have started asking x-rays of spine's before breeding to exclude al dogs who have the extra vertibra, and set higher standards for their own evaluation of hips and elbows
it's just another way to keep making money and assurring that big kennels stay inline if they ever want to get a Va result again
open your eyes about the SV it's all about forcing people to play along in their moneygrabbing/world domination games/dreams they are resposable for the huge decline of the breed so don't believe for a second they care about the breed if they believe they would make less money if they would trie to improve it

For Kyto
The blame for the decline in the breed cannot be totally laid at the feet of the SV. Most of the blame lays squarely at the feet of the breeders. It is they who decide who to mate their females to, not the SV. If these breeders choose to follow like sheep the fashion dogs then they clearly do not understand the requirement to breed their animals to the breed standard and, they show ignorance of how the breeding families come together for the betterment of the breed. Just taking females to the winners is not a recipe for success over a long period of time. All that these people are doing is stamping in time after time all of the bad faults.

The politics of the SV is another matter which has an enormous influence but not always in the best interests of the breed. The show side of the breed is the biggest problem faced by the breed because of the money involved together with a touch of ego. Here again this political element is made up of breeders. The show people outnumber the other elements of the breed and, therefore, it is the show side’s votes that control which way the wind blows.

It is the small breeders that I feel sorry for because so many of these people try to do the right thing. Hopefully, with the new changes proposed in opening up the bloodlines the small man will get his chance because initially the opportunity will arise for those with experience and knowledge who will come to the fore.

Once the SV dominates the world maybe there will be an end to hunger and we will have world peace. I didn't realize that an extra vertebrate was the problem with the breed, I guess we don't have to worry about DM, HD, or ED. Those mean old show people getting involved and out numbering working people, shame on them!
I can understand not holding your breath and expecting real reform overnight but I see these movements as having a positive impact. Out of hundreds of V dogs which also includes working lines a small group is singled out as being of a quality higher than the rest so really they don't have to be ranked. This may perhaps give an opening to place a working line VA. I believe we are witnessing a changing of the guard, one that has higher standards for the breed. We will have to wait and see how it is implemented.

mackenzie, it's up to the breedclub of country of origin to set the standards for breeding, i will never blame breeders for using a certain stud if that stud is approved and has all quallifications needed
it's up to the breedclub to set breedingstandards that high so that only good studs are allowed in breeding just my opinion
markobytes why trie to make this again an endless debat about SL vs WL? it's still one breed and although SL outnumber WL by many and so can make al decisions in the breedclubs (democratie hmm, hmm) you don't need a college degree to see how much the breed has improved eversinds workingcapebility's came secondary to looks
1.there still by far the number1 policedog in the world.... no mali's are these day's my bad
2.health is no longer an issue.......... no that just started at that time
3. they dominate the ipo sport that was created as a breed test for GSD .......................nope long time gone
oh well at least they still can get VA titles and use their teeth on hard kibble
thank you markobytes for your help in making my breed the nr1 working dog in the world and for making sure that more and more GSD people are getting a mali just to not spend  half their time at the vet keep up the deniel about upcomming health issues more and more people will turn away from GSD, just keep the SL whith you before they come and "EDIT" up my breed to

by Blitzen on 30 August 2013 - 13:08

Not to worry, kyto, most GSD owners/breeders I know wouldn't want to own a Mali or breed a Mali litter. If they did, they'd already be doing it. Your breed isn't popular with GSD show people because they're not very appealing to the eye and working line people think they're unreliable and hard to teach much of anything. So.....you're free to"EDIT" up your breed all on your own. Good luck Clown.

by kyto on 30 August 2013 - 13:08

sorry i got carried away, i appologize to well meaning Sl people, getting angry everytime some of them blindly defend their strategy of selecting based upon looks, even more now "EDIT" a 17year old girll trainning at our club just had to put down her 2e replacement puppy german import from a VA1 stud and BSZ winner
no girll of 17 should have to give up 3 puppy's because of health issues, and if some idiot than comes along denieling there's yet another health issue comming up with can cause paralization of hind legs (just as in dashhund) i can get very frustrated so appologies to wel meaning SL and WL breeders/owners

I agree with Mackenzie that breeders bear the largest share of the responsibility for the state of the breed. The SV has set standards that 99.9% of American breeders are unable to meet. It is up to breeders to insure that their dogs not only meet the letter of these standards but meet the spirit of the standard of the founders. There was not intended to be a show side and a working side, both were meant to be parts of each individual dog. The problem is when being on the podium is your sole desire. The solution is for the different sides to be involved in both parts as some breeders do. The founders intended for each breeding animal to have both it's working and it's conformation judged and titled. The working side does share the responsibility for the conformation part of the total dog.
I do not dismiss these changes as BS , enforcing the height requirement alone may prove to be a daunting task. And I wonder how diversifying the bloodlines will be achieved. Not allowing a NZ hip score to go VA does tighten health standards. Requiring a progeny group to  go VA will have an impact in the US as few kennels that show can get the numbers.
