I believe that Lufthansa is now the only airline that flies dogs to/from Germany as excess baggage at a reasonable price (about 300 Euro). United, Delta, etc are 2-3 times that--if they take dogs at all. Gone are the easy access days unless you live in/near a city with direct Lufthansa/Germany connections.

chicago is not the cheapest to fly on, flying dogs as access luggage will most likely stop at all airlines, at least these are the plans, most airlines already stopped doing it

Ok thanks all who replied. I was quoted 1350 euro, which I thought was a tad high, but sounds like about the right quote then.
