Then I would say it is not a big deal and to just work on the puppy with the other person. 12 weeks is typically the 1st stage of fear. Something very innocent could have happened at a perfect moment with the puppy and the other person (something dropped and made a loud noise; person could have shouted). With time and consistency, this should be easily overcome.

I would definitely make sure the puppy does not have a UTI; take in urine sample to be sure.

Thank you, Nan. I do appreciate your suggestion, but this is not my pup, so I'm not in a position to take a urine sample. Since the submissive peeing only occurs with one person and not at any other time I am doubtful it is physical problem.

My mom's male Shih Tzu used to submissive pee and it used to drive my mom crazy. She made all her guests ignore him until he calmed down (she would tie him on the linoleum until he calmed down and reward him for being calm with treats and gentle "good Odie"). Eventually she would allow him to greet guests outside with the understanding the guests couldn't overdo the excitement. Odie outgrew it and has not had an accident in 5 years. Now my brother and his wife have a male Yorkie that still pees submissively (body rounded, ears and head down, no eye contact) and unfortunately, they do not work with him. I have tried to educate them multiple times on how to handle it without any luck, they yell at him, put him outside, and generally make a big deal of it. At 6 years old, he is still peeing all over the place when excited (some people just don't have the temperament for dogs, my brother and his wife included and I really pray they do not get any more after the 2 they currently have).

Submissive peeing? I had the same problems with a puppy and was suggested here in this forum to try "feeding treats from my palms and with praises"(giving /allowing the pup to feed/eat treats from my palms). I tried it and it was magic, as in less than 48 hours my pup overcame its confidence n trust issues and became sociable with boldness, no peeing, no ear-back or fear. I suggest you try this. If i had the time i'll search out that thread again. (this is why we're really missing resource persons like "Hodie" and others). Goodluck.

Thank you NigerDeltaMann! That was very helpful information. I am hoping that if I get this puppy that it will not be a problem, but if it is I will try your method. I would greatly appreciate it if you can find that thread.
