Elidog, he's welcome to try. The truth is its own defense against such nonsense, and at no point did I or anyone else say that he was convicted of any criminal charges. That does not change the facts that two different individuals have all of the documentation to prove that they placed dogs in his care, and when they obtained possession of those dogs directly from Jeffers both had been neglected to the point of starvation. What part of the photo shown above do you find acceptable? It was taken by the owner of the female that was left with Jeffers for training & titling--which they were paying him to do--and is the condition of the dog when they got her back from them. A third individual was awarded a judgement by the courts because her dog disappeared while in Jeffers' hands for training. If you believe this is the caliber of individual who should be representing the sport, that calls your character into question, not mine.

bubbabooboo, the question is not whether he is talented at catching dogs. It is an issue of neglecting at least two dogs to the point of starvation, one of which can be seen in the photo above. I wonder how glowingly you'd speak of him were you to find the dog he got from you in the condition of the dog in that photo?

"My point is, there are abusers in the 'sport' that are hidden the way family abusers are hidden...a picture perfect, happy outward appearance, that disguises the 'other side'."
joanro, precisely. And as long as people who ARE aware of the offenses remain silent, the behaviors continue.

Hexe,
Thank you for posting some of the accomplishments this young man has achieved over the past few years. That's quite a resume'.
You may find yourself in a small group of people when it comes to Ray. In the years I have known him personally. My opinion is similar to the response you received from the WDA. I feel you have done this man a personal injustice. If Ray decides to persue this matter where it belongs and takes you to task for what you have written about him,, let me assure you, I'll walk to the trial if I have to; to speak on his behalf.
There may be other parties that have had issues in the past. It doesn't sound like you were one of them. What you have written goes way outside protected rights and it is too bad opinions like what you have written are allowed to be published second hand on this forum.

I am not speaking glowingly of Ray Jeffers or of anyone else .. I'm too old to trust humans as we are all pretty craptastic on one level or another. Just stating the facts as I know them about Ray Jeffers. I don't know what he did 5 years ago or if he kills baby kittens then or now. Maybe Ray is a serial dog killer .. I don't see it if he is. Ray seems to understand the dogs he trains and trials with and appears to like them and treat them fairly. As Joanro said there are plenty of schutzhund clubs with dark secrets and seemingly nice people who do some things to their dogs that I want no part of. Maybe Ray is the biggest con artist in the history of dog training but I doubt it because the dog community is full of shysters, con artists, and liars top to bottom. He would need to be a pretty fantastic and talented liar and con artist to exceed the crap wrapped crap with crap icing I see on this board and hear from the rest of the dog world on a daily basis. I am open to disliking Ray as soon as he does something to me or one of my dogs that I can dislike him for. I think that we can assume Ray is no longer a USCA member as they have a "if you ain't with us and only us you can't be a member rule" but I don't know that nor is it any of my business.

Dog1, you are entitled to your opinion. At the same time, I am entitled to hold the neglect of two dogs, and the disappearance of a third, against him. Secondhand? Hardly. The three individuals whose dogs were involved published their experiences on this site themselves; it is their own words, their photos, which tell their story. I've seen the photos of the dog Kathy Moacanin rescued from Jeffers, and the dog looked every bit as bad as the one in the photograph that was published here by that female's owner.
Perhaps Jeffers has changed, and what was done to those dogs is the fault of youthful ignorance and an overestimation of what he could handle at that time--to date, there has been no accountability on his part for the poor care he gave those dogs, nor for the callous way he handled other dogs such as the one he lost for which the owner was awarded a judgement [I don't know if that's been paid at this time or not; I have contacted that dog's owner to inquire as to the status of that judgement]. Again, I ask you the same thing I asked bubbabooboo: would you speak as well of this individual were you to find a dog YOU sold him, or were paying him to train, in the condition the owners of the female shown above received their dog back?
bubbabooboo, this isn't a USCA issue; I'm not a member of that organization either. Five years isn't a long time when it comes to remembering that someone starved more than one dog. He may be the most talented helper ever born, but it does not excuse the fact that he failed those dogs.

What would Jesus do to Ray Jeffers?? LOL A question for the ages??
by hexe on 01 May 2013 - 14:05
I can't answer that question, bubbabooboo. All I can tell you is that I still don't believe Michael Vick should be allowed to even own an animal, ever, and I damn sure don't believe he should have been welcomed back to professional football either.

I'm not clear what Michael Vick and Ray Jeffers have in common other than being African American. Vick was convicted of participating and financing the breeding, fighting, and killing of Pitbulls and Pitbull mixes. Jeffers apparently did not care for some dogs properly at worst case and was never convicted of anything. Kind of a stretch to put Michael Vick in the same post in comparison don't you think??

This is old news, and serves no other purpose than to spread hate and fear. Pedigree Data Base should not be a used as forum to spread false accusations, rumors, and further personal vendettas.
Ray Jeffers is not an establishment politician from a landed elite family. He’s the only county commissioner of color in a predominantly white county. He has worked tirelessly to advocate for the rights of and programs for senior citizens , minorities and the underprivileged. I know of no one who personally works or trains with Ray that has anything negative to say regarding Ray’s personal character or how he trains or maintains dogs in his keep.
By your own admission, you support none of our organizations and thus, do not trial or train in our sport. The purpose of your post is not to protect our sport from unethical trainers, but to spread lies and drama and publicly damage the reputation of a young minority man who is trying to better himself, his community and the sport he loves.
Go away.
