Hips x ray positioning is horrific. Knee caps are pointing totally out. If this particular x ray gets excellent then I will eat my hat.
I'd say OFA Good on a good day and fair on a bad day. But definitely not excellent. If this particular x ray gets OFA Excellent I would like to know that so that I can use it in my ongoing argument against OFA reading.
Won't happen though.

Totally agree, Hans. I got a PM from OP and I explained that it wasn't the hips I was criticizing; it's the xray. OFA will not give an excellent, ime, no matter how great the hips look, without the xray being PERFECT. This shot is a long long way from perfect. The pelvis isn't too bad, so a lot of people think the positioning is ok, but it's very poor. The knees are all wrong and knees are an essential part of of reading these. The hips are still looking good enough to pass, so in the interest of saving money, I see no reason not to send these in, but if it were my dog and I saw this immediately, I would have asked the vet to retake it and properly rotate the knees.

This was posted before by someone and i think it is a great video for OFA hip x-ray's, to help people read correct positioning.

Another x-ray with the knees rotated inwardly and the femurs parallel might get this dog an excellent instead of a good, but then again it may not matter. If the OP wants the best rating possible, then taking the x-ray again would be a good idea I think. IMO the x-ray is not that bad, it is diagnostic and should get this dog no less than a good rating. In the end, it's the OFA's opinion that counts, so we will know the official rating in a few weeks. The vet's copy of the results will include a rating on the quality of the submitted x-ray so the OP can ask if he/she thinks it's important to know.
