Hundmutter, I forgot to answer your question! No, he is not overshot. He has a correct bite.

Capri? Pretty boy? What Smile

by Ibrahim on 23 April 2013 - 20:04

Bi-color male GSD of medium size, medium strong, good chest depth to height but slightly stretched, a strong head but slightly narrow muzzle, nice planes, good forehead, dome free, dark eye and good earset. A substantial neck of correct length, nice topline, high withers but short, slighly long back and slightly long loin, good length of croup but slightly steep, good tail but tailset is slightly high. Good hind angulation, good hocks and feet, a nice thigh. underline could be better, also chest could use more outward spring. Nice straight fore legs, very good pasterns, short and steep front upper arm, needs more shoulder blade lay and more fore chest development. Very nice rich pigment, allover a nice boy.

Jenni - I don't know why I was thinking Capri was your black DDR male. I might be thinking of someone else? Sorry!

Rik

as much as can be told from a pic. I like him quite a bit. beautiful color and dark eyes, perfect ears and set .body proportions are well within the standard. shoulder looks to be well placed, upper arm could maybe be placed a tad better, hard to say as the pic is on a bit of an angle. straight back, rear is nicely angled. croup does fall off a little, but the fur bump at the base of the tail calls attention to it. Quite a few highly rated s/l do the same.

overall, a very striking GSD, wl or sl.

all of which means very little if a dog doesn't have good character and heart, so if he has that also, I think you have done very well.

congrats,
Rik

Thomas Lapp has always been the owner of Falko. Falko is considered a better dog by many in Europe than his sire, Falk. You can read more about Falko; http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://2011.von-den-woelfen.com/index.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26view%3Darticle%26id%3D63%26Itemid%3D54&prev=/search%3Fq%3DFalko%2Bvom%2BWolfsblick%26client%3Dsafari%26hl%3Den

Congrats Ramage on acquiring such a handsome dog. I'm sure he is a awesome working dog with very staple temperament, both is known to pass through his sire line.

i also have a Falko son, Ellex vom Windecker Hof that we are beyond pleased with his structure, health, temperament & work abilities.

Hundmutter

As Ibrahim says, "dome free".
Melon headed sounds to me like apple headed, and I know
it's difficult from just photos,  but I really do not see any
dome. In fact I feel we are not looking at the same dog,
'cos for my money his eyes are a little too close together,
the very opposite of what you say you see ?

His head shape is definitely not "to the Standard", IMO; the first
picture shows this a bit better.  Think about the work Ibrahim did
with drawing lines to illustrate the various angles of body parts,
the planes of this boy's head don't seem to line up on the
parallel.

Not denying he is handsome in his own right, not trying to be
deliberately nasty, and if he is as great as you say in every
respect that is good news.  But you invited a 'critique', not just
a love-in (that's why I so rarely do full critiques on here !) and I
see a nice enough dog (and I am partial to Black dogs myself)
but I don't see all that terrific a specimen of the breed structurally.
Not on the other hand implying he's a complete washout, either.
It is what it is.
