THANKS GUYS!....I had always been so cautious with my first 3 dogs that after 6 years I let my "alertness" slack and it caught me by surprise, plus the only info you ever really get - unless you are specifically looking for it, is fatal cases and 99% of horror stories which include full on stomach flip....thank God we were home when it happened too...i am glad i never had experienced it before and i am even more glad that this time it was not a full on stomach flip...
As of today everything is okay, he is now being fed 2 a day. 2 small meals in the morning about 15 min apart and he stays in the house while we get ready for work to make sure he is not running, jumping, chasing, etc...and same thing in the evening - the upside down cup in the center of his bowl and having no other dogs around while he eats has slowed his speed of eating tremendously...i will lay off mixing people food with dog food....
..if this does happen again with all the precautions i am taking i will look into getting his stomach stapled, he does fit the typical category of most bloat prone dogs...he has a huge and very narrow chest cavity and he is a large male, he loves dunking his whole head into a dog pool and water buckets and comes up with water running out of his mouth so he is gulping...
Boxes of Gas X is now in a dog supply cabinet (along with respiratory tube), my purse and in a medicine cabinet....

once again Thank You!
P.S. he was a "re-home" dog w/o history or pedigree and he is altered so no breeding for him...

Good job LF. Sorry you had such a fright! It must have been awful if you "needed" a vodka... I'm pretty sure you said you don't drink!
I am going to the store to stock up on some GasX, too, just to be prepared, as this first day of heat was hard on Beau. Thanks for sharing your experience and everyone else who gave great tips. So glad that hunky Tank is OK.

hey bee...thanks..
yeah, you are absolutely right - i normally don't drink last time i had a bloody marry was in 2003 on a cruise...but my nerves were so screwed up after the fact that I just could not calm down, it was like i was "relaxed", i was sitting down, Tank was laying next to me but i felt like i was shaking on the inside, my gut felt so tightened up it hurt, my husband offered me a drink and I actually contemplated on taking a shot but then i thought what if i had to drive him? The incident happened around 6 pm (I am a morning person i rather get up at 4 am than stay up till midnight, i am usually in bed by 9:30-10 pm) but I stayed up watching him till 11:30 and than went to bed and laid unable to sleep for what seems like hours...I don't mean to come off sounding "unstable"..LOOL...but hell it was really unnerving and unexpected, usually I am the one who keeps calm and gets it done but this really had me shaken up...I hate to admit it but he is my "favorite" even though he is the worse dog when it comes to obedience, listening, even acknowledging that humans are in charge...maybe its that happy go lucky, and nothing bothers me attitude, and his spirit that makes him so different...
For example he stole a bone from another dog and as he was running around the patio chair i reached over to grab his collar and he pulled me over not only out of the chair but off the patio, i was ready to kill him i was scraped and bruised and as i tried to get up he was all over me licking me, i still had my feet on the patio with a back on the ground so you can imagine trying to lift yourself up while a 70 pound dog is hopping around you licking you to death, and even when i whacked him on the head and yelled he would not give up trying to lick and nudge and than having to explain to the rest of the family that ran out when they heard the thud while being covered with dog drool..it was so sad it was hillarious...other dogs would have backed off after the first "back off" command....
He still got a long way to go to maturity, obedience but he got a good heart, he just needs some time and more attention...believe me some days it seems like i am the only one who sees potential in him...
Speaking of Beau....where are photo updates? I bet he doubled in size since last time we saw him,...

LF...I hate to tell you this.... but that exuberant dog or yours... just could be... he his leaking his drive all over you! LMAO!
I'll do an update soon... finally something Spring like is in the air. That Rhinodog of mine, is just this wee bit shy from being as tall as Mojo at the moment. Who knows what he weights, lol, but he is solid! Is not inclined to leap tall buildings, is how I would put it!

Beautiful boy!!! and related to bloat and torsion... I had one bloat/torsion quite few years back and was very lucky to have survived surgery.... had to remove his spleen and was showing necrotic tissue in his stomach etc etc and had about a 10% chance of recovering, but he did!!! Lived another 6 yrs with no problems.. but just wanted to comment that he was a highly energetic nervous type dog and had no 'precursors' normally associated with the developement of bloat prior to the onset. I had read that some of the military K-9 units were doing the stomach tacking as preventative care on many of their working dogs...and that yes, it took about 3 days to recover.
