Yes, hexe, the age of the dog, together with the episodes of not feeling well (vomiting), hint more for a diagnosis related to the pituitary gland. I am surprised that the vet is not treating this more aggressively. Low blood sodium levels can cause seizures, low potassium levels - live threatening cardiac arrhythmias including death. Drinking just lots of water, can make the brain swell (a common hazing misconception that drinking lots of water is harmless). Dog should be hospitalized and on intravenous fluids with electrolyte replacement, and most importantly on Vasopressin until the cause for the DI is found and corrected.
Also, I am not to found about the drug Proin. The human equivalent was taken of the market as it caused Strokes. The animal version is still widely used for urinary incontinence in senior dogs or related to spay/neuter, yet has caused also sudden deaths often after just one dose.
