Hello everyone. Some of you may recognize me from my post a couple months back warning people about Patchwork Shepherds. I have a male GSD that just turned 1 year old that was diagnosed at the age of 5 months with Sub-aortic Stenosis as well as Ventricular arrhythmias. They first suspected a problem when my vet simply listened to his heart and heard a murmur. From there she was concerned enough to recommend I take him toa cardiologist who performed an Echocardiogram and ECG. He has had numerous ECG's since and different cocktails of drugs to try and control his arrythimias. Currently he is taking Sotalol 120 mg twice a day and Mexiletine 250 mg twice a day. These are very powerful drugs that come with there own side effects but currently his arrythmias are under control, but we go in next week for another ECHO to see how his Sub-aortic stenosis condition is. Hopefully it is not worsening. Either way, I am basically just doing my best to keep him happy and loved. The cardiologist doesn't think he will live to see many more birthdays, but I hopefully that he will be wrong.
I am not sure this helps, but just wanted others to know what I am doing for these diseases.

Markobytes- I myself would be interested kn that info. Not everyone that buys a German Shrpherd imports of buys from big time breeders.
If AKC has allowed this, thdy are doing a disservice to thd breed, and basicly perpertrating a fraud.
Where can I find this info?

Kitkat, while I in NO WAY support someone who would do this, I do not appreciate having this thread dragged off topic. Could you please take this to PM or start a separate thread? Thank you!
And just FYI, any Shiloh registered as a GSD after 1990 (date that the ISSR split with the AKC) is NOT a GSD! Prior to that, the Shilohs were AKC registered GSDs bred at the Shiloh Shepherd kennel run by Tina Barber in New York state. Some dogs born around the time of the split MAY have dual registration.

sunny, you would have better luck herding cats than keeping a subject on topic. It's what we do.
anyway, thanks for bring another little known health issue, at least to me, to light.
best,
Rik

Rik, I have baaaad, baaaad memories of previous Shiloh threads. That's why I'm trying very hard to keep it on topic, in case history repeats itself!
Edit: I started a new thread. Markobytes, please use it to post your story!
