Five GSDs here. Mostly just hair that's the issue, and food cost

6 here. Only inside until weather breaks. Lots & lots of work. Kennel will be completed in spring. Oh yeah, one ankle biter to. All are usually well behaved, but 4 being intact females, it can be a challenge at times. Wouldn't change a thing! Worth every bit!

I have 5, 4 GSDs and one lab mix; age range is 10 months - 6 years. Time, hair and food bill are the biggest challenges.
My 2 puppy GSDs are rotated about every 6 -7 hours during the day on who is inside vs. outside kennel.
My lab generally stays outdoors in the "big boy" run, as he is only about 2 years old and distruction and hyper is still his middle name. I work with him on house manners, but he generally will not be allowed in the house for any length of time until sometime after the 4 year mark when he should settle down more.
Rose (my 3 1/2 female) is indoors most of the time. Baron (my 6 year old), well that depends on what is going on; I would say he spends about 50% of his time outdoors in the big boy run.
Like posters above, show of dominance is not tolerated. I let Baron be higher in the dog pack, as he is a natural alpha, but only by millimeters. Aggression is not tolerated by any.
We have lots of play time, training, and walks; it helps that I work from home. Any together play time outdoors is only 2 dogs, as getting more than that together outdoors results in everyone questioning if they need to listen to me.
I guess I spend about 2 - 3 hours a day during the week for play / training / walks. Weekend, depends on what is going on, but I guess it would average out to about 6 hours a day, just for the dogs. Right now, the pups are getting most of the time, with training and all.
Having this many dogs brings fun to a whole new level. I have a good laugh at least once a day. It also brings some unique challenges; training is the key. All of mine know the basics; except for Baron (whole different story), all go into an instant "down" on command and "leave it" is also a must.
Bad weather days bring lots of joy, mud, water, asprine, as all of the dogs come inside. I have no carpet; I can't imagine having it with dogs that shed. I gave up on a spotless house a long time ago; life is too short to worry about dirt and hair. I also learned not to sweat the small stuff. If something is destroyed or broken, well, it is just a material thing. If I really needed it, I should not have had it accessible to the dogs. I am very thankful that GSDs are generally not that distructive (comparing to labs) and out grow most of the puppy pains by 2 years. I am pretty sure I would not have this many labs at the same time; nothing is safe for 4 years, not even walls.
