Two Moons

by Two Moons on 28 January 2013 - 23:01

The technology is not new and is not a working device as of yet.
Chips in firearms are very limited and only in development stages.
Sorta like Detroit cars of the future.
Not a reality.

Most people would not except this technology anyway, military and law enforcement.
It was proposed that such technology might protect an officer who was relieved of his weapon.

It's a marketing ploy that hasn't gotten the reaction expected.

Brave new world........lol

Most any NEWS story that deals with new tech can I guess in some minds be considered marketing. Gunners just don't like this and that is nothing new or surprising. I do think if this saves one child from accidentally shooting themselves or a friend it is worth every penny.

Here market this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_gun or this http://sciencenetlinks.com/science-news/science-updates/smart-gun/

That's not what the chip does GSD.

you do provide humor, that is certain.

I never said this technology is delusional.  What is delusional is that you think this is in the pipeline and coming our way to bring us a brave new world in gun reform.  It's like the makers of bulletproof backpacks and vests for dogs, sounds great, marketing pointed to the paranoid and fearful and hoping it catches mainstream so they can make lots of money.  In reality, they aren't going to do anything.

Without the bracelet the gun won't fire, no?

by beetree on 28 January 2013 - 23:01

Ok... let's go outside the box on this one. Let's say NRA is correct... maybe it is more guns in school to make the kids safe... IF the guns are this type of gun...... Now, tell me what a stupid, dumb idea that is now!!!

Go ahead...... make my day.

GSD,
this technology was first introduced years ago and fell flat on it's face for a number of reasons.

Sounds great in a movie though.

Bee,
finally you come around on this thread.
Armed security works right now.

Smart guns however are only an idea and according to most who have looked at them they are not practical, reliable, or safe.

As with all technology it will get better with time. Most people couldn't use an old computer like todays computers. Sure if it is rejected by people who feel it is somehow another attempt at violating their rights, it will go no where until laws are made.

I think it is worth a look. I see all kinds of biometric gun safes, guns will follow in time.

It was rejected by law enforcement GSD.

Someday the technology may exist.
We may eventually be able to travel at the speed of light too.
Someday.
