oh, so show me where its says every municipality, county or state, must have a banded and operating militia, and in order to own a gun, one must be a member of said militia.  I must have missed that part.

otherwise a militia, throughout history, has been known as a citizen army, called upon in times of emergency.  For a little perspective, go read a history book at the time when this was written.  What was the "militia"  Normal citizens, that when called upon, went a fought.  Farmers by day, a soldier the next, then back to a farmer.  Nowhere ever have they been a regular and continously operating "force".  In fact I think that would probably be illegal to start and fund another "army" in this country.

I guess I've said my opinion, I happen to think it's a pretty good one based historical significance and accepted definitions.  Now let's hear your's, what is a militia?  Because no matter how much you want to believe it's not true, a militia, by definition exists soley when it is needed, and then disbanded.  Not my opinion, but if it helps you argue your point, you can continue to believe it is.

1. To control or direct according to rule, principle, or law.

From my reading of material from the colonial era, I have come to
understand that "well regulated militia" had a meaning at that time
(ca. 1789) in the nature of "a properly functioning militia" - which
would mean something along the lines of a properly trained and equipped
militia (since it was common at that time for militiamen to bring their
own firearms, with which they were already proficient.)

zdog,
it does no good to try to talk sense to these people, they don't have any and it goes right over their heads.

They do not know or understand our Constitution, they don't even understand why we have one.

They would rather legislate our rights away than protect our children.

There is nothing constructive about gun control, they don't enforce the laws we have now, adding more is ridicules.

Moons.

Yes Moons we understand nothing and of course you understand everything.

Now we have no sense either, not a good debater. Only thing you might be good at is putting people down that have a differing opinion than you.

You enjoy yourself.

No matter how you twist it a "well regulated militia" in most peoples definition means a militia that is trained together and has rules.

When was the last time you all got together for militia training? I can see all you cowboys now out there up against a well trained army. Good luck.

by zdog on 28 January 2013 - 17:01

I'm hardly a cowboy, i drive a minivan for crying out loud.

I don't care about most people's definitions, most people in this country aren't bright enough to know anything.  The militia is a citizens army, to be called upon in time of emergency.  In order to be called up, they must be armed, therefore, the right for them to be armed shall not be infringed.  It says nothing of maintaining an active army>

I guess you didn't pay attention in history class too much did you?  The British were a well trained army too, how did them cowboys do?

One thing you missed GSD, volunteers.
The militia is not called to duty, they are volunteers.
Regulated means by the states, the states have rights, it means a chain of command.

Your history kinda sucks too.

No matter, the crime that got you all stirred up is not reason to change the law of the land.

You'd rather play politics than do anything constructive for this countries children, and yet your all so compassionate.

"Hello, read what it says."

Sort of asking for the impossible; aren't you?

I have plenty of ideas to protect the children but I am not smart enough to debate them with you.

Regulated does not mean by the states, maybe the state is someone you will be fighting against in your war that you are sure is coming.

The very first thing I would do is put BULLET proof glass in every window in the schools. I have more ideas but they make a school seem like a prison and not a place to learn.

Now my history sucks, funny I was a straight A student in history, must have been bad teachers. LMFAO.  Anything else you want to cut me down on???

So, lets debate government officals being exempt from this bill, as Ninja wanted. I read a good portion of the bill and it talks about police and working government officals like the FBI and CIA being exempt and nothing about privately owned guns government officals may own.
