ownership ! Others are absolutely right, Markobytes most of
all. There are some right know-it-all idiots out there. If you
surf around the forum you'll find previous threds where we have
all been wetting ourselves with laughter over some of the things
members of the great general public have told us about the dogs
we have with us.
I'll repeat what I said about Lily before - and I wasn't just saying it,
I believe it - it is quite likely this little bitch, despite her background,
is going to grow up to be a very nice specimen, one you will wish
you had papers for. I would be extremely surprised if this puppy
does not grow up to be "all GSD".
BTW there is another sort of Belgian Shepherd Dog, apart from the
black Groenendahl, which is more like the Malis in shape and colour
(and in pet rather than working lines, the temperament too) but has
a long coat. It is called a Terveuren. Look it up ! Bet the silly woman
who thinks she knows Belgians so well never mentioned that ?
[But Lily doesn't look anything like a Teurv puppy either. ]

The longer hair probably threw her off. I too, have a long coat, and I'm forever explaining to people that yes, she is a German Shepherd, and yes, this is a sable colour and yes, she is purebred, and yes, they too can come with long coats.

I for one have been asked or told that my purebred GSDs (from carefully selected excellent titled pedigrees) are malinois, chow chow, chow-mix, coydog, police dog or german shepherd mix.
I remember reading a book of a dog trainer's personal experiences....one thing that always stuck with me from that book was when the trainer was out walking their purebred rottweiler and some person on the street insisted that it was a portuguese water dog.......clearly one of these two people was very wrong because the porty and the rotty look nothing alike!!!

Thank you for all your remarks.
I see after doing a little scanning of this site that many people have the same problem. It seems there is always someone who thinks they know so much about another persons puppy/dog.
This morning we met the same woman (her dog is absolutely gorgeous). This morning she came armed with puppy photo's of dogs belgian and german sherpherds that she had owned. She still insists that Lily is not a german shepherd. Now this morning Lily has changed magically into a completely diferent breed she is now believes that Lily must be a mix between belgian and husky, hmm I am not seeing this one.
Again she advised me to be careful because Lily may turn into a vicous dog. Now looking a Lily I see this hmmm again. She has a face that say beware.
I just agreed with everything she said, makes life easy.
Now here is the funniest part, she wants me to be so careful and even consider rehoming lily. She said that she has had many years of experience with these types of dogs and could avoid any bad or dangerous behaviour. She said that she is willing to take Lily of our hands.
I smell a rat.... how about you guys.
By the way her german shepherd is a male and there is a really big market for these dogs over here.
I did not really want a puppy and would never have considered a german shepherd as a pet but after having Lily for just 5 weeks I would never part with her, she is one of the most amazing dogs I have come across.

nice looking long coat GSD male; Lily is a pretty, coated GSD
female; there is a ready market for GSDs in Cairo. Hmmm ...
I wonder why she wants to take your puppy off your hands ???
Added to say: Seriously, Sam, i'd be really careful that she doesn't
try to steal her or something; be a bit cautious with how much you
see of this woman, and what you say to her (like about how you
didn't really want a dog etc, in case it gets twisted against you somehow).
May seem like paranoia, but I have heard so many stories where people
lose their beloved dogs to thieves and kidnappers these days that I can't
help but worry for you.

Personally, I think you were fed a line of crap in regards to the temprament, etc.... Just cut your ties with these people and enjoy your new girl. She is better off it seems.

I echo what Linda says. Be careful of this person and try not to have too much to do with her, and if you know the times she is about try and avoid them. The next thing I am sure if she can't get her hands on her now,is that as Lily grows up there will be a proposed 'mating'. No doubt she will tell you it is essential for females to have puppies or they will turn vicious LOL. You sound far too sensible to go with that either, but my crystal ball foretells this proposal in the future.

This lady sounds like she could be one of those creepers, so hang onto your pup!
