Texas Deb he sounds great especially the medical alert thing. Where did you get him? Also, would really enjoy seeing a pic of him.

@ABBY NORMAL: Thanks, that is good advice. All the posts have been good and informative. I will try to get hubby to show me how to download a photo of my boy. I took my son to karate class tonight and it was pouring rain. Kept raining steadily all evening that is why hubby stayed home to let dogs stay inside, warm and dry. He said when I left Gunther ran out the door and laid around in the rain until I got home. Hubby said he called Gunther several times, tried to get him to come in but Gunther just wagged his tail at him then laid down by the fence and stayed there/. When I pulled in there he was, waiting for me, as soon as we came in the gate, he gave me kisses and ran for the door. I think Abby is right, he may be too attached, Man I love that dog!

Texasdeb

Aren't they wonderful?

My girl follows me like a shadow, and sometimes even lays on the shower mat while I am in the shower - waiting for me LOL. My boy will lay out in the rain waiting for my OH, just like your boy (til I knock on the window and make him come in !)  Their devotion is legendary, and deeply touching.

Ours both take instructions from either of us though, which is what I was getting at in my earlier post. You won't lose the love and devotion by asking him to listen to you both. Keep on enjoying your lovely boy :)

@JonRob: I got him from a breeder in Lcombe Louisiana (Alexis Kennels). In fact, he is so awesome, I was surprised to hear about one of his littermates. It seems my mail delivery person also purchased a dog from the same breeder. He is now also 1 yr old, but he temperment is shocking. He is also completely attached to the mail lady, however, will have nothing to do with anyone else in the family. He appears to be afraid of men, will not allow her husband or the kids to really touch him or play, or even give him treats. My mail lady said he is not aggressive with anyone, he simply shakes and runs when anyone except her approaches him. Completely different than my boy. My boy is more than happy to play with my son, let my hubby touch, pet, scratch etc, he just will not take commands from anyone but me and it my shadow. I have spoken to others who purchased pups from the same breeder and they have had no problems, only the mail lady. She has taken him to basic obediance, and was told he had strong potential to become a "fear biter" and that she should be careful. I had no idea what to advise her, but I did tell her about this website and that she could likely get some great insights here. She stopped on her route yesterday specifically to ask me about my dog and his temperment and behavior. Seemed pretty surprised when she learned he was not at all like her dog. ANy suggestions?
