Bhaugh, no shame in admitting that. As I've said before, titles don't make the dog, but I damn sure won't pay the price of a pup WITH all the credentials behind it for one that doesn't have them.

Thanks Gsdpack...that's who passed all the judgmental nonsense on who should have a working line. There are thousands and thousands of working line dogs everywhere....a few of them are doing LE work, still fewer are in sport...and fewer still in shelters.....so where are all these thousands and thousands working lines dogs at? Give you one guess....and many many of them are first time owners. Simply a statement not supported by reality...that's why I questioned if they owned one or was just repeating the party line of sme breed people.

Gustav. I have a working line girl. Have had dogs before but first time WL GSD owner seems to work fine am working with a trainer once a week she is a blast just got get used to the fact she always wants to go but hey it may keep me trim.... so I quess have to agree with you.

Gustav. I do own an East German working female and a Czech female. From the stuff that I've seen some people would do way better with a showline. Higher drive dogs can be too much for some owners. Which is how I got my East female. You musnt go to shelters often... In Northern Indiana there are high drive gsds there every 2 weeks. They usually don't survive a week in them.
I never said I was a professional. But in MY opinion higher drive dogs should be trained in obedience MINIMUM. But a lot of people don't know that which is why shelters run through german shepherds quite a bit here. 
What Gustav? Are you a professional? How many working dogs do you have? I take in aggressive dogs and rehab them. Not skiddish fear biters. I'm talking about over aggressive dogs. Such as the 93lb male that is at my feet right now. Ripped a womans lip off through a neoprene muzzle... Don't use those things. 
Also it is usually a walk through the park when people go to trainers... Some first time high drive dog owners can handle it on their own believe it or not... But that isn't usually how it goes... It usually goes down hill because the dog doesn't get enough attention then starts chewing everything ect ect.... You get the point. Then BAM! Shelter bound.
Oh! I forgot to add this... Most first time dog owners do not get working shepherds because a responsible breeder wouldn't sell a first time dog owner one.
If by first time owner you thought I mean't a first time gsd owner you misunderstood. I mean't first time DOG owner... I've had a few come to me myself... It saddens me :/

Just so you know, Gustav has a lot of experience working dogs, training dogs and handling dogs.  He is also a wealth of information on pedigrees and breeding.  He is clearly a man that knows what he is doing and has a lot to offer.   He is someone that knows working lines and how to breed and work them like very few people do.  

He may be experienced but he doesn't have the right to question what I have. That was rather unprofessional if you ask me. I have experience but not with just some working dogs but more overly aggressive ones. I haven't really talked to him. But the first post I read consisted of what he said with the whole basing it on the outside... I thought that was rather rude myself. Maybe I overthought it but it seemed rather rude to me. But seriously though... Why would I just post on something if I haven't experienced it myself?

Ahhh, many many people do.  Based on 9 posts it is hard to know your experience level and expertise.   

Slamdunc, not to be funny but I just got into working dogs after I got my SL male... I haven't been on here that much but I got into WLs earlier this year. So I'm not severely experenced but I have some under my belt. Why do people just post without any experience at all? It's not even reliable if they have no experience. It would be an opinion myself.

Well, hang around and you will see.  Don't be put off or insulted by some, they generally don't mean to insult or may have taken your post other than the way it was intended.  Participate and share your experience and questions.  You will quickly see who has knowledge, actual experience and is willing to share and help.  Good luck with your dogs.
