The first picture above is Bodo, not Bernd. Notice how his muzzle seems to point up a bit? That's what I mean by not being in the same planes. Here's a profile shot of my WL boy for comparison.

Bodo's muzzle is also a bit too long in relation to his head. It should be 50;50 (head same length as muzzle.) He also has a poor muzzle stop. It's more of a ski slope than a stop.

Bernd's head is better (brother to Bodo) but his muzzle is a bit too long, too, he has a Roman nose, and the lower jaw could be stronger. He contributed far more to the gene pool than Bodo, who was exported to the States and mostly ignored as a stud in favour of Lance of Fran-jo. What Smile

Absolutely love Bandit, I think the puppy is very nice, really hard to tell without maturity;  should be very nice boy.  Good luck with him,  Nan

Withers are partially connected to shoulder blade lay, the better the first the better is the latter, also as he gains more muscle withers will improve and look higher, but my observation is usually when the shoulder blade lay is lacking the withers would drop low while in gait even if in stack they look high due to muscle mass. At the moment he still lacks in fore chest development and shoulder angle, he still needs more shoulder lay and more withers height but withers length is good. Head is on the smaller edge, neck is very beautiful and substantial, beautiful topline and good length of a strong back, croup is very good lay and lengthwise, very good tail and tailset, he could use more hind angulation, good hocks and good feet, good underline, straight fore legs and very beautiful pasterns and feet. His proportions are very good and he looks more than medium size at the moment, maybe he'll be a large boy. Allover a nice specimen.

Xeph, your 9 month old puppy looks pretty good for 9 months old.  For a WL GSD he has nice proportions, is not extreme or overdone and nicely balanced. He has adequate bone, good feet, nice tail set and croup is adequate (better than many WL).  The first consideration is always temperament.  Pigment and color is nice, but secondary.  Heavy bone does inhibit agility and your dog's bone looks adequate to me.  With proper diet he will fill out a bit more between 1.5 and 2 years old.  But you don't want him to bulk up too much as that would decrease his agility.

I like your dog's head which is all male, and I like the way he stands.  Reminds me of a WL dog I had back in the 1990s which was a very good dog.  We selected this dog for temperament and he was amazing.  His pigment was light sable too but his temperament was so ideal that's all that mattered.  We enjoyed him until he died at 10 years old. I think your dog is very nice and I like his overall appearance.

Normally I try to acquire our GSDs with top conformation.   However there are times we have made exceptions.  We just bought a puppy which is our first long coat.  Why would we ever do that?  I had access for the pick female of this litter out of a VA dog and the one longcoat just happended to be an alpha female and by far the boldest and most outgoing.  Her temperament was so outstanding we immediately realized how rare this is in SLs.  She also had the best conformation and movement along with the top pick male.  We have an adult male so we cannot have two.  We just lost our almost 13 year old SL alpha bitch we delivered as a puppy (a great dog after the first year).  So now we have a great, very dominant longcoat for our new 24/7 in home family pet.
