Thanks for all the examples of beautiful German Shepherds!!!

I believe the young man thought he could be a GSD but needed to hear
the final word.
I even had the lady that was the steward for the obedience ring come running over to take
a picture of Rollie, even though she already has a American SL male that is the same age as Rollie, she was drooling over him!
It was funny too when the young man asked what kind of dog he was, the judge lady was walking by at the same time and said "He's a winner!"
I feel way better walking out of the obedience ring than I do the conformation ring!;))

I wonder if other breeds get this non-recognition problem ?

My Huskies get the "they're too small to be Malamutes"......or "how much wolf do they have in them" comments all the time.  Of course they're too small to be Malamutes....they're Huskies.  Even my Sierra gets the "she's too small for a Husky" comment though....which is funny because if she gained another lb she'd be the highest she could be according to standards.  People expect with most any breed for them to be these giant dogs it seems.

"The judge was walking by ... and said 'He's a winner'."
What more can you ask ?  (If you'd wished for someone to say that, just at that moment, there would not
have been anyone.)  Congratulations on his - and you -  doing a good Ob Round;  the timing of that comment
is just ace, too funny.  Kinda makes up for people asking silly questions, doesn't it !

Hardly a compliment - more like "uneducated" i guess - but i find it generally annoying - I had a male EXACTLY that color -- he was the only one in the litter -- his littermates were all sables -- but his mother was that color also. People insisted he was half labrador - or god knows what else !! in another litter with a sable sire -- i had a solid black coat -- i had the people call me up crying because their vet tech told them that it couldnt possibly be a purebred shepherd because they dont come in BLACK 1! this was AFTER they had a 5 generation pedigree and a blue slip in their hands and pictures of several generations of their puppies ancestors !!! and who did they choose to believe? a vet tech? seriously--- ask me why I gave up breeding- go ahead ask me.. If i see a rare breed that I dont recognize -- Im very careful how I ask what it is -- I don't say -- is that a PBGV? I simply say what breed is that? and if its a mutt looking dog - I still start with that same question - because you never know --

Definitely take it as a compliment :)

There is no end to the remarks made by the dog dumb public. Why even pay any attention to them? It happens to all owners of purebred dogs; it is expected and not a big deal.

In my experience, unless your dog looks like Rin-tin-tin, a lot of people may think he's not a GSD.

Both of mine are SG rated Long-Coats and you'd be amused at some of the comments I get on the street.

I constantly am asked what Spunky (my user picture) is mixed with.....and so many people just can't believe she is all German shepherd.....everybody thinks she is way too small, 23" at shoulders.
