Brittany; You don't think it is expensive if the parents had no titles and no hip ratings? M.

$900 to a working home with SHOWLINES included is expencive though...its one thing to charge that for PURE working lines, its another to charge that for a Showline and Working mix...

Port, uh no hip ratings? I must of not read that on your posts :) I would keep on searching for your next dog. If you want a showline with extreme drives you may want to checkout http://www.germanshepherdlitters.com/litters.html with Pedro/Anja. I strongly recommend this litter for those who want to show and to trial...

If you want to do schutzhund, you buy a pup from parents who DO schutzhund from a breeder who trains. If you want to go to shows, in either case, you buy a pup from a good breeder who shows and can help you choose a pup to meet your goals. Find out how many pups the breeder has produced, and how many have SCHUTZHUND TITLES or how many have show ratings and placings - not how many are in pet homes, how many have CGC or TDIs - how many have schutzhund titles or are V KKL1 Schh3!!! Then look at the credentials of the breeding PAIR - what has dam produced - talk to people with dam's pups...same with sire.... This pedigree a mix of everything - you have Darby Dan and Wynthea in the dam on the 4th &/or 5th generations, there are some working dogs back there and German showlines.... just nothing remarkable - one of those breedings done with no purpose or goal - just a genetic lottery and something in there to push almost every one's button! Ask if either parent has sired/produced titled schutzhund dogs. There are some very very nice working litters in the US with people who are not breeding for the pet market or the novice market. Friends of mine has 3 pups right now that they kept back from a litter - all will do schutzhund - they are 4.5 months old....the paretns are Sire: 7x Schh3 V rated; Dam: SG Schh1, KKL1 and will now complete her titles - both are 'a' normal AND OFA Good/Elbows normal - and their price at 8 weeks was not higher than these pups. They may be more now that they have had some work but all these pups are appropriate for a working home and have good pedigrees and family credentials.

Thanks everyone! I am also talking to someone who has an import pup for sale with titled parents from the Czech Republic. They are asking for $1500.00 with AKC registration. They also giving me a lifetime guarantee/support and replace the pup if hereditary problems should arise. The pups pedigree has old Czech working lines and I belive the grand sire on the dam's side is Don vom Clausberg. No offence Brittany, But port did say they were looking for a working pup...I'm not saying the dogs you mentioned don't have drive, but Working is working and Showing is Showing...its when people mix the two they get the problems...it is looked down upon, because as much as people want to say "The german shepherd is ONE breed, not several" they'd be wrong. There's the working lines and the showlines, German or American...this breed is very much segregated. Port, I'm not saying that to get a WORKING dog you MUST go with the seller I have recommened, but I am saying that you'd have better luck getting a WORKING dog with a workingbloodline. Good luck and let us know, Krista blueskyekennels@msn.com

Hanno does have his SchH3... he also has his FH, Not fricken bad for a showline/Working eh? With all due respect Krista.. You are new to the breed.. If I remember correctly you are a Golden Retriever breeder, not German shepherds... how on earth can you sit there and tell the whole world that breeding showlines with workingline causes problems? Send me facts... not opinions that breeding showlines to workingline causes problems. I want to hear scientific evidence proving your statement. By the way... Showlines can work... you just haven't been to the right club to actually see a good showline work.

Hello Brittany, You're right, I am NEW to the GSD breed :)...but I can assure you, I've tied in with some of the best Working and Show breeders...both say the same thing. I will MORE than admit, Some showlines can work, and yepper, Some workinglines can show...its just that if you think about it, Showlines specialize in Showing, and workinglines in Working. Port asked for a WORKING dog, so it depending on how far he/she wants to take it, a good bet might be a working line for her/him. If he/she wants beauty and some workability a showline might be what he/she wants. It depends intirly on EACH PERSON'S PREFERANCE. For me, I want a working dog, NO showlines, but thats JUST me...And you seem to want Showlines, Brittany, Thats just you. My point, Port, its your choice, we can only offer what WE know to be helpful advice, its what you want, and think you'll get. Good luck on your search, Krista blueskyekennels@msn.com
