My girl had a high temp 40.2 -- 7 days before her due date ( she only had 1 mating )

Rushed to my vet who did an ultrasound and said all was fine and gave her an AB inj. 8 hours later she was in full labour and delivered 8 puppies with only 4 surviving,
one of the deceased puppies had defacated in it's sac and caused infection, hence the high temp.

56/57 days... litter of 8 - one born very dead, which is what I think set her off early - 4 pups survived

Today is day 57... temp this morning 100.1 - no behavioral changes.  Though every other Friday I go to a horse tack sale.  And thats the night my husband usually has company over to go play in his man cave (detached from the house).  She better not pick tommorow night... lol

sounds like her temp hasn't dropped yet..   I would expect it to go down to 98.2 or so..   then it has to come back up again before she whelps..   Good luck with your litter.

Correct.. been keeping an eye on it.. temping 1/2 times per day.  Started at 100.5, 100.3, 100.1 for last 2 days.  We are good right now... will just keep checking!

My last bitch's mother had a subsequent litter one week early;  I was house-sitting,
the breeder went off to Germany, she'll be fine she's got another week to go ...
Guess who had to help with the whelping ?  Me and one completely inexperienced
teenage foster-son !  Like Ambii's litter, eight healthy little beauties, plus one very
large & stillborn.
You win some, you lose some.

56 days from the first breeding.
I was so nervous thinking there would be something wrong and they weren't
ready, but, she surprised me with 8 very healthy normal pups!

I know you want the earliest, but, I have to say I had one go 67 days, it was a
lab and she had 2 fat healthy boy pups each 1 3/4 pounds, they would cry cause they
had belly aches from too much milk from mom :))

Oh no.. I actually dont want earlier!! lol.. .I took off work for "later" the actual due date... well.. I should have just taken off the whole darn week.  Oh well!

Hundmutter... At this point right now.. I wish I didnt have any knowledge/experience.  I have so much in my head about what  to do!!  It probably would be to the bitch's benefit for me to just get the $%&* out!  lol!
I have soooo many things rolling through my head. Its this girl's first litter.. I have been through it before with other GSDs.  But I keep asking myself "What if.. this happens".. "What if ... that happens".  What if its too long between puppies/contractions, When do I decide to try and feather, When do I decide to give Oxytocin... what if there is a dead puppy... what if there's a puppy stuck in the birth canal... what if my vet doesnt answer the phone... what if my power goes out.. .lol... AND SO ON.. I JUST NEED A XANEX AND LET MY DOG TAKE CARE OF HERSELF!

You poor thing.
Take a big breath, have a strong coffee.

Really though, you sound as though you have done lots of reading, been given a great deal of advice and yes you are fully prepared.

When it all starts to happen and the first puppy is born you will most likely be surprised at how well your girl and you will cope.
She will very likely just do it all herself and you will just be an observer (fingers xxxxx).

Don't worry, no matter how many litters we have whelped - we all / most of us feel exacly the same before a litter is due  Regular Smile.

Will you have anyone to help you through the whelping or a mentor you can callif needed ?
