I understand, at least on an entry level, that just because a dog is a "protection" breed, does not mean it will do so. Certainly not on command or with consistant reliability. I also understand training and the need for it, whether the dog is just an around the house dor or competition. I never attempted to make it seem that I might possibly not need MORE training than the dog/pup. Animals are rarely the problem, it's almost always the people associated with them that confuse and confound the issue. So I guess I am in the wrong place.

Tricked? How so? It is an honest observation, but sure, let's just only tell people what they want to hear. That is sure to help them in the long run.~

Crackedpottery:: I don't know if you are or are not in the right place, don't know enough about you, just what you presented.

How about this,

You are a very beautiful woman. I think you are so noble to not let your fears get the best of you. That would let the abuser win. It is your vulnerability that is your innocence, too. Don't lose it. A dog is a good first warning system.

Welcome to the forum, some times you need to have a tough skin on here, but on the whole they are a good crowd.

Thanks Jenni. I should hire someone to voire dire breeders. This is a lot like dealing with horse breeders, everyone has an opinion and as an insider some people can't remember what it is like to be "new" and therefore they make assumptions that you are simply unworthy or incapable of learning.

I'm not horribly impressed with flattery and I dont like sunshine blown up my skirt. I'm not "noble" I'm stubborn.

I agree with Chaz : get a firearm license and carry a gun. Besides me, most of the females in my family carry one on their person or in their vehicles at all times..Let your dog be your companion and a deterrent; not a weapon..JMO..

I also agree with Bee's first post..
I would change your avatar picture,,I would not personally be advertising that you are a pretty young women especially if you are having issues it's better to remain anonymous,,Lots of weirdos,,It's your right to do as you choose, but....

BTW what kind of riding to you enjoy..Your pic looks like it came out of The Equine Chronicle,,

Welcome. As Krazy bout K9's said "Welcome to the funny farm, keep a stiff upper lip, and laugh alongwith, hope you can get some real answers for your questions."

Most of the advice is good here, but there are a number of hot heads. Best advice I can give you is tune out the emotions and read everyones answers. Once you have that, you make the decision. You know what your capabilities are and what is a good fit for what you need.
The GSDs are (IMHO) the most fantastic dog bred there is. That said, they are very powerful as an adult. Make sure you are ready for what you get. The advice you get here is one of many places. Look every where, then you will get the best idea.
