Sitasmom... Really ?? I didnt know that!! Do you know which states, and who and how they enforce something like this and for what reasoning??
I am just curious! I have had to separate litters younger that were trying to kill each other with their shark attitudes and needle teeth !! :)
7 weeks old has always been our goal on testing and picking !

Yeah, and California still has a rule on the books that pockets are illegal. And some religions can't eat certain meats, etc. because at the time they didn't have a fridge etc. Fine, 8 weeks. But who writes these laws? Some of the people on here are dog lovers and they don't have a clue. You're gonna count on lawmakers? I watched a show on animal planet years ago. The animal control lady got a call of a chained up, starving dog. She went there and poured half a bag of food in a bowl and left. I was like, WTF! The next day, she returned to a dog with bloat. Make up your own mind of what is right.

Yup, we up here get a good laugh from some of the laws still in place in some States.
Seriously, who does enforce such a law?

Too many red flags, would pass altogether with this buyer, JMHO
The original purpose of the "pups need to be 8wk before selling" law, was to keep BYB & puppy mills from selling young(as in 4-6wks old) pups to pet store.

I have gotten a ton of calls from "LEOs" lately. I have only found ONE to be legit. They are almost all totally full of it, legends in their own minds, and think because they sit home and watch Cops that they are also cops. I have also had a couple outright try to scam me. Ask enough and you will expose them for what they are. They typically don't know much, so the right questions can shut them down pretty fast;-)

.. and you know once a 'cop'/k-9 "handler".. now has a 'trainer' certificate ..
good luck Hutchins.. !! I hope they get the forever homes you desire for them!
I am still in awe over the age limit thing.. I had a kennel in California in the 80's -96 with PPD license, state registered kenell license, DEA license (for pseudo) and all the bells and whistles.. and have never heard of it.. must have happened after I sold and moved to the midwest !! ? you know where there are real ethical breeders.. no puppy mills here !! :) I normally kept a couple back from the litters to train and sell older for K-9 officers that were in the program.. but 8 weeks old?? geez ! I want them to start their life with their new owners and begin crate training by them not me !! (just kidding) ..

Law or no law, We never let our pups leave before 8wks old. At that age we know they have had at least 2 shots. If they stay longer, we are without a doubt certain they have had a complete series of vacs..
We are always observing our pups from the minute they are born. I don't mean actually doing a test on them, but constantly watching them interact with each other. As for as how long we want to keep them, that answer would be as long as it take us to feel comfortable with the buyer. Our puppies are separated at 9wks old. They do not live in a pack pass that age. We NEVER do a breeding unless we are capable of keeping the entire litter if we can not find the right homes.
We do the Volhund test on them also beginning at 5 and every two weeks after. We usually have a pretty good idea of the character/temperament of the pups at 7wks old, but I have seen that change with some puppies as they got older. So the puppy you have at 7 wks old may not necessarily the pup at 10-12 weeks old. We have sold to LEO before and none of them have ever had a problem with our decision to do it this way. Although this may not work for everyone, it has always worked for us.
We have not yet heard back from the trainer that is suppose to evaluate the pup. If he does call, I can give him all the information he need as of this time. We will be more than happy to allow him to do his evaluation at our place under our supervision. So we sill see what happens...
