it seems to be a recessive type of sable dont shoot me my female kindof has the coloration and i almost got a puppy who looks like the dog in the middle. AKC registered. so its just kind of a color fluke i guess some down under recessive i likez it lol

also could be like LORD up there only the red pigment went to shit in the lines to produce a very light cream who knows.  dont know their pedigrees.

The Hobo dogs' pedigrees were kept a carefully guarded secret to prevent the lines being exploited.

I'm not 100% sure whether they were silver and black sables, or black and silver, though I watch the show all the time here on Canadian TV. Some of the dogs show brown on their shoulders. All I know is they WERE purebred GSDs, not husky mixes as some claim. The colour was chosen because the series was originally shot in b&w, and Chuck felt the black and silver colour would show up better on the TV screen.

Here's London:

Followed that Equidius link back to this dog.  Turns out he looks just like a Hobo Dog.  Check out his pedigree.

ok.. so what exactly is a Hobo ?? is it a specific breed or specific bloodline?? I have seen the pictures in books back in the 80's.. but didnt pay much attention to the story ! der..

I think the only true reverse mask are those Sunsilver & Duke posted, reverse mask all face color is light (Cheeks and round the mouth), then black/semi black strip on top of nose that goes upwards till it connects with forehead which again is black/semi black hence the name reverse mask. Most of the above pictures show light masks especially the first sable Melba posted, at last I could be wrong.

AKC
Quote: Afghan Hound  • Colors:     Black,  Black & Silver,  Black & Tan,  Blue, Blue & Cream, Cream, Red,  Silver,   White     • Other Markings:   Black Mask, Brindle,   Brindle Black Mask, Brindle Domino, Domino  • One of the most unusual colors is "domino,"  where the dog's face color is lighter than the  body coat with a darker reverse mask  beginning over the eyes, like a Mickey Mouse  cap effect.

Would he be considered a bicolor very dark black/tan with a reversed mask nowadays?

My dog may have a reversed mask, though it is difficult to see with his adult pigment. It looked like he had one when he was a young adult. It would come from his father's side and is strongly seen in this dog, his grandmother (who has Lord through Cliff), though possibly also from Fenia vom Zentaur:
