YellowRose, I'm surprised with your knowledge of the scriptures to hear you refer to a preacher as a pastor....Or, are you referring to the elders?. Only elders should be called pastors, but that's a whole different time and place to discuss that, and not on this forum. "If" you want to know why I mention that, I can always email you and talk about it there. So I don't derail this thread, or email you the facebook note I made about the matter that talks about the matter.

And Blitzen, I haven't read the article yet. I made that comment and then had to leave soon after.  If it's true......that's sad that they would not allow that.  However after seeing YellowRose comments, I can see "why" they shouldn't......in their own eyes anyway and if that is the case that it was something like what YR mentioned.....Then I have no problem with their decision. I'll give the article a read later though and then comment again if I get a chance later today.

I have pastored churches, if a pastor refuses to marry a couple only because of his congregation he is not a pastor, but a hireling. I have refused to marry people but never because of race.

It might be a great idea to read the article before offering comments on the contents? YR said she didn't read it either, Guy.

Right, Blitzen.  I noticed that after I skimmed down through her comment and I was typing mine partially as I read through hers.......and then I noticed after I typed most of mine that she said she didn't read it lol.

This is an unfortunate incident. But it's not like they couldn't go somewhere else, there are thousands of black churches in this country.

Here are some organizations that don't allow whites. I'm sure CNN in the interest of fair play will write a sob story about them. Oh wait it's CNN. LOL

Of course if one was to substitute the word white for black (in the names below) there would be public outrage.

I'm guessing the members of these organizations are Obama supporters.

  • American Association of Blacks in Energy
  • The Association of Black Psychologists
  • The Executive Leadership Council
  • Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies
  • National Association of Black Accountants
  • National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators, and Developers
  • National Association of Black Journalists
  • National Black Business Council
  • National Black Chamber of Commerce
  • National Black MBA Association
  • National Black Nurses Association
  • National Council of Negro Women
  • National Coalition of 100 Black Women
  • National Medical Association
  • National Newspaper Publishers Association
  • National Urban League
  • National Society of Black Engineers
  • Organization of Black Designers
  • United Negro College Fund
  • 100 Black Men of America

Why do you suppose they don't allow whites? How did you find this list?  So it's okay to refuse to marry a black couple in a white church if there are black-only business and social associations?

BTW, not every black citizen of the US voted for or will be voting for Obama.

Though set up to address funding inequities in education resources for African Americans, the UNCF-administered scholarships are open to all ethnicities; the great majority of recipients are still African-American. It provides scholarships to students attending its member colleges as well as to those going elsewhere.

UNCF= United Negro College Fund.

YOu are being funny I hope, GUY>>>

I full well know what a BISHOP/ELDER/PAstor is or are.//OUR churches call our Minister, a PASTOR...I was raised in an INdependent Christian Church, and we follow the New Testament to the T.

Another thread/////We do not have BISHOPS in the Baptist, Christian Church , or other. I do not believe in denomination anyway.  Terms vary in all bodies of believers and if they abide by the scripture they are all shepherds, teachers and appointed by the HOLY SPIRIT or they are not to be doing that job.

   Blitzen:

I do nt need to read the article..THE title should tell me the PASTOR or the person, who marries in that church by the State invested law, would not marry a black couple.

REASON not given evidentually but IT made news.  LIKE I stand...any Pastor, who is also called in our christian churches today...also a MINISTER>    Ministers preach....Pastors preach...elders preach...SS teachers teach and preach....evangelists preach but most do not perform weddings... SOME can in some bodies of CHURCHES>..

If the church who the PASTORATE makes a decision for RACE to not marry,,,then leave that church.

IF the PASTORATE had another reason , and it was not posted in the news,,maybe there were other REASONS>
I am sure this couple did not wash their DIRTY LAUNDRY in the press. maybe there was a very good reason to not marry them.??

Maybe it was because they were not members black or white or green??

Every church has rules they abide by.   MANY a Pastor , MINISTER, has refused to marry couples for many reasons..>THEY simply go somewhere else.

YR, since you didn't read the article:

"Charles and Te'Andrea Wilson had planned to marry this month at the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs in Mississippi, but were asked at the last minute to move.

Their pastor, Stan Weatherford, made the request on behalf of some congregants who didn't want to see the couple married there, according to CNN affiliate WLBT. He performed the ceremony at a nearby church.

"This was, had not, had never been done here before so it was setting a new (precedent) and there were those who reacted to that," Weatherford told WLBT.

"I didn't want to have a controversy within the church, and I didn't want a controversy to affect the wedding of Charles and Te' Andrea. I wanted to make sure their wedding day was a special day," he reportedly said.

On Sunday, some church members reacted to news of the wedding with surprise, many hadn't known what happened to the Wilsons until they heard about it on the news, and offered apologies."

I often wonder what some are going to do when they get to the pearly gaits and find a person of color presiding over the entry ceremony.  Say, no thanks, I'll opt for hell (assuming there is that option).
