I use the Vollard test and my understanding is that it needs to be done at exactly 49 day to be valid. The web link to what Bob probably sent you http://www.workingdogs.com/testing_volhard.htm The test is supposed to be done at 49 days exactly due to the idea that the puppy shows nearly identical brain activity to that of a full grown dog during this period and they consider it a window to what the dog will be like when developed. This, of course, doesn't take into account the nurture side of the puppy's life after the test. The test can be administered after 49 days and may give indication of the same traits to a lesser degree, I believe. Hope that helps.
