Bob-0, do you use the Vollard test?

by Bob-O on 04 November 2006 - 07:11
Ranchinglady, yes that is the test that I use. What I sent to Krista was the test's evaluation points, and another document that explains how to interpret the scores.

I use the Vollard test and my understanding is that it needs to be done at exactly 49 day to be valid. But there is an interesting article disputing the usefulness of the Vollard test: The Elements of Temperament, by Joy Tiz. I think this link will get you to it
http://www.vanerp.net/ilse/GSDINFO/Elements%20of%20Temperament.htm
This should get you to the whole test:

Hi All, Bob-O sent me the tests, but for the life of me, my computer wouldn't load them. Dear RanchingLady, always thinking ahead, thanks so much for posting the links to the site! :) You're great! You all are, thanks for your repsonces to my post!

The web link to what Bob probably sent you
http://www.workingdogs.com/testing_volhard.htm
The test is supposed to be done at 49 days exactly due to the idea that the puppy shows nearly identical brain activity to that of a full grown dog during this period and they consider it a window to what the dog will be like when developed.
This, of course, doesn't take into account the nurture side of the puppy's life after the test. The test can be administered after 49 days and may give indication of the same traits to a lesser degree, I believe.
Hope that helps.
