'Session' was put through the meat grinder on working dog forums as a failure at multiple levels.

In any case, the unfortunate truth is that this particular activity, however flawed is rather mild compared to what many pit bulls are subjected to.


 

And THAT, my friends, is why the breed is banned in Ontario! I don't approve of breed bans, but there were too many a**holes like this trying to prove how 'tough' their dogs were, and not knowing the difference between a dog that was sound in the head, and would bite on command, and one that would bite anything that moved!

There was also indiscriminate breeding: females would be bred to anything that LOOKED like a pit bull. I've seen a male pitty that weighed 120 lbs.

The shelters were crammed full of them, and no one wanted them, except the sort of people who had no business owning this sort of dog in the first place!

And it fixed everything, didn't it?

BTW, a 120 "Pitty" is certainly not an APBT. That's a big part of the problem right there.

Now when you see a pit bull 'type' dog, it's always a boxer mix/bulldog mix.  I think a lot of vets and AC people don't like the law, and will just let people be, unless their dogs become a problem, or people complain. There's a couple of pit bulls that come to the local dog park, and the owners will confess straight out that the dog is indeed a pit bull. And they don't muzzle them in public, either, as the law says they are are supposed to.

A lot of people have been campaigning to get the ban over-ruled, but so far no luck.

Troy, I'm not sure I understand...and no, I didn't watch the video, as I'm pretty sure the comments in this thread have summed it up sufficiently.  When you say you worked the dog in the video after that was shot, was that while she was in the hands of the person who had/has custody of her at the moment? If she was an abuse case, I presume she was adopted out after she recovered--were there no provisions that the dog NEVER be used for anything even resembling bitework?  And additionally, if there's video of the dog being abused, then why has that not been pursued legally? 

I agree that breed bans are basically useless, and we'd be better off banning the breeding of the types that are responsible for such treatment of the dogs.  99.9% of the actual APBT, Staffies, Bullies and the like that I've encountered have been absolute dolls, though some certainly did have issues with dogs other than their own social group...but that's not unexpected in any terrier breed, and not uncommon in any dog breed period.

I really loathe a major sector of the human race at times. This is one of those times.

Wow, this guy is good.... I can tell  the best way  is the way your doing it.. Sike, that's going to cause some major problems and people wonder why pits get  bad names its actions like this that get people hurt by dogs......take the video down to save who ever the some heart ache, I wouldn't  give you a rock to take care of....sorry but people like this that think dog traing is about putting a dog that's ready to shit on itself in a defensive position and wanting the dog to come out all teeth is a major let down in the training community .
