That's is what I said as well, only fawndallas said a puppy CAN'T go nine hrs without food so I asked her "why". How long do you suppose a pup being shipped from Eu. Goes without? A pup just shipping coast to coast goes about twelve hrs. Bee, I think we said the same thing:)

Last year I traveled with an 8 week old puppy. It included driving 5 hours, getting a health certificate, staying overnight at a hotel, 2 flights ) (NY to Chicago and Chicago to Houston) and another 1 hour drive home. Total travel time was including layover and overnight in the hotel was about 20 hours.
I let the pup out for potty brakes at places where dogs were less likely to be - office building parking lots, corn fields and the like. At the airport I took him to the "family" restroom and let him out of his soft crate and do his business on the floor. Then cleaned up after him.
The breeder gave me a huge sack of food and I offered him this food and water ever few hours, and let him out in the airport (on a blanket) while waiting for flights. It was an amazing bonding experience. In the end, while exhausting, it was a great experience.
This photo was taken just a few hours after arriving home.

My last puppy, @ 9 wks, picked her up in MA. and drove back to MD. Arabella rode up front with me to start the bonding process. Stretched her legs and had her breaks when I refueled. Think that was once. No problems.

My pup was a day from 9 weeks when he was shipped from Germany. Frankfurt to Denver, 12 hour flight plus processing time before/after. No food, no breaks. He was a crazy monster puppy that had to pee when I let him outta the crate. No worries on the drive.
