It was brought into question as to whether or not these photos depicted the ACTUAL size of the wolves, and my argument is that they DO get that big.  The green treed pics of the trapper were in Sun Valley Idaho, and the snowy pics were Mt.View/Lyman Wyoming.

Sorry for the delayed answer; "problem wolves" are (for example) wolves that have found it's much easier to kill penned livestock than wild game.  Like bears or any other opportunist would, they've adapted to and prefer the "suburban lifestyle".  They will of course become less of a "problem", once they are able to LEARN that humans pose a threat to them.

Humans are such great teachers,
first we wipe them out, then we take their habitat, then we return them into small unfamiliar controlled areas and expect them to stay there.
This is evolution as well Shtal, played out right in front of you over the course of a couple of hundred years.
And man's no better at it now than he ever was.

Yes, they get that big.
And they are smart, they can learn, they have problem solving skills.
The problem is they are starting out from scratch all over again in a place they never knew before, unlike the ones we removed who had lived there for so long.
If only they had a couple of hundred years to adapt, I don't think that's gonna happen.

Predators can only thrive by the absence of man, anytime the two meet there is always conflict.
You can't put a wilderness in a box and expect wild creatures to know where the lines are drawn.
So, there will always be conflict and there will be dead predators and lost livestock.

Moons.

Conflict is a natural part of ANY system.  The predators will even compete with other predators, as in this story

Mountain lions kill collared wolves in Bitterroot

I've hunted the Sula area mentioned in this story with Steph (KrazyBoutK9s), but could you imagine a mt. lion entangled with one of these huge canines?  That would be a sight to behold.
