PINERIDGE

JUSTDSM: - thanks for the info --  with the replies all jumbled - it's still clear that there is a theme being expressed here --  what someone called the left side tho - is the left as we see it - which you know is the right hip -  and I assumed the odd visual on the actual left hip -that some folks commented about was 'positioning'  and nothing to do with a deformity or anything else.

A couple people remarked on the actual Right femor head -- there appears to be some flattening and that is what I referred to as 'remodeling' -- (that may be  technically NOT the proper term for what is pictured -  but what I was trying to convey was that it looked like something other than a normal "rounded" head.  "Remodeling" from a radiologists point of view may be something else --( like I said - I'm a simple country idiot - no more)

and I mentioned before about 'condition' - vs.  mobility --  and looking "less than perfect" on x-ray - does not necesssrily mean lameness now or later .  I think if you control her weight, and limit exertion --  exercise yes - but no crazy running / jumping  (certainly eliminate any jumping)  hopefully, you're not looking at any serious problems for a long long time - if ever.

if you have no plans for breeding - then I suppose an OFA evaluation is totally unnecessary -- your vet knows what he's looking at (we assume if nothing else).   If you wanted an "official" rating - you could always do OFA acceptable x-rays at a later date - and see what they say.

The older she is when you do that - the better your chances of the best possible score -
We assume that serious defects are evident by 24 months - and that there are less changes occcurring - or  slower changes - after that age.   so if she looks the same (on x-ray) a year from now - it is what it is --  It's good you have at least this view at this time - because it may come in handy  for comparison purposes 1 or 2 years from now if things change.

This xray does not show any remodeling. The flat spot is where the ligament attaches the head to the socket. It is a normal finding. The sockets could be deeper and IMO another xray with the dog sedated is needed to make an accurate call. Best guess is if the dog is sedated she will be rated as mildy dysplastic; without borderline or fair depending on which readers evaluate the xray. OFA is not consistent and it's impossible to second guess them on close calls like this one.

If this dog is lame, my guess is there is something else going on with her other than her hips.
