In each of my litters I will have 2 prices. One for full registration and one with limited. Male and females are the same price.  I have read a lot of pros/cons on buying limited. The reason I offer it is becasue a lot of people know they are not going to be breeding and so this allows them to have a great quality puppy at a lower price.  I feel that those thinking of breeding or showing and paying a higher price will then hopefully pay attention to what they breed to and why. It works for me, not saying it doesn't have its flaws but it has been my practice for several years.  No long contracts, but will work up a contract if the purchaser wants one, and we will word it to both our liking. I'm with rik, schutzhund 2 is a title. Hip/elbows? DM testing? Guarantees on the pup?

by SitasMom on 19 May 2012 - 04:05

in my litters almost all puppies are sold with limited registration until proof of passing hips and elbows and they have some type of title, then i will change it to full registration.

Chaz, that was funny. Yes SchH is a title. If the parents are SchH2 then that is a good thing.

I think it is what a breeder can "ask for" a pup a consistently "get"
I have a breeder she is a friend( I do not agree on her breeding goals) not a hour a way from me she breeds ASL/WSL cross and get's 800.00 to a 1000.00 a pup
They are just pets and I have no idea if she even does HD/ED but she does sale a lot of pups.
BUT you could NOT give me one of her dogs for free, hell I don't care if you said you would buy it's food for life and pay vet bills it would be a waist of space at my home. So quality and asking price is in the eye of the beholder.
I know of another breeder close that ask a similar price again couldn't give me one !! So I think it is more in researching a breeder that has like minded goals and investing in the hard work they have already laid,(.Same goals) that I think is key to finding a good breeder is communication and ARE you on the same page NOT asking price.

Update, I just did some research on the breeder and as it turns out, the general feeling is that he puts out too many litters and has a reputation of avoiding some medical checks on his animals.

I think I will follow Riks advice and learn a bit more, and thoroughly background the breeder as well as the GSD he's selling. before I spend any money.

Hi, I am looking to buy a GSD puppy from a breeder on Washington. Male pup and he's about 10 weeks old. Dam is a V SchH1, and sire is a schH3 KKL1 from Germany - and the price Is $3500. I do not know a lot about theses abbreviations and what they mean, other than status and types of champions. Looking for any feedback from others who are more familiar in the arena of GSD, bloodlines, titles, in relation to prices. I am told this particular male dog is a definately breed dog and the stud of the litter. I'm pretty emotionally involved in this, and am looking to get the puppy next week..however, I do want to make sure I'm not being taking advantage of, since I am not experienced in this. Looking for any input.

RedOctober,
the more you learn about the breed, the more you will be saved from over priced fantasy.
When you come to know just what it is you want and what you will do with it, the better off you will be as well.

Don't buy into the hype, do not cecum to the craft of salesmanship, know a few simple truths.

The price of a dog has nothing to do with it's greatness, it's a crap shoot no matter what anyone tells you.
Like Forrest Gump's box O chocolates and that's a fact.

The internet is the worst place to begin.

A great dog could cost as little as a few hundred dollars, and a two thousand dollar dog could just as easily turn out to be the biggest mistake of your life.
There are no guarantees, only your own knowledge and judgment would I trust if I were you.

So,
learn more, much more, before you begin.

Moons.

For example, I have a litter after VA10 Godalis Tino and my breeding bitch IPO1 - Kkl1 Reyya von Sadaghiani. We price them around 1500 dollars. If you were locating at nearby countries I could be helpfull. But USA is far away from us :)
(p.s.: I locate in Istanbul - Turkey)

Shopping and emotions definately should not go hand in hand.   A Higher Price does not always mean you are buying qaulity.  Some dogs might be great dogs separetly but together they might not be the greatest match.

Why dont you put the pedigree of the pup on here so someone might be able to give you some help and guidance.
