I would wait for the "resident" vet hodie,to post her opinion on this.

by eichenluft on 21 October 2006 - 13:10

there are deformities and abnormalities yes, but no there are not puppies that are female one day or hour and then males the next time you check on them. Doesn't happen.

by Blitzen on 21 October 2006 - 14:10

I'm with Eichenluft, it can't happen, there were errors made when the whelps were sexed at birth. It happens. They do not magically change sex.

by jdh on 21 October 2006 - 15:10

Unless you mark each as you go it is pretty easy to mix your count as they are nearly indistinguishable at birth.

I wasn't saying they magically changed sex, that wasn't it at all, what I was saying was what Ranchinglady was going on, sometimes things don't drop, thats all. No, I'm not a crazy, I know things like that don't and really can't happen, but I do think that it was a delayed dropping process. And yes, I did mark every puppy, as I always do, I am very organized and have the puppies identified and marked at birth. I also had a second opinion, as I have mentioned, my mother, who also has expirance with breeding dogs, who, unlike myself was not in the least sleep deprived. I think Ranchinglady and others really hit it on the head, that certain things did not drop at that time. Thats all, not like something happened in the middle of the night, they all switched sexes or something, course the title of my post is and was misleading, so for that I'm sorry.

Sounds like we need to have Steve address this?

by LMH on 22 October 2006 - 00:10

DesertRangers-- Thanks for the laugh. Needed it after that last thread.

I think even the most experienced breeders sometimes sex their litters incorrectly. Not more than 3 months ago a friend emailed me saying she had all males and the next day she had 2 females in the mix. Not additional puppies, just different sexes than she originally thought. Sorry if I intimated that you were being silly, Blueskye. I didn't mean it that way at all.

by blueskyekennels on 22 October 2006 - 04:10

Hey Blitz, Don't worry about it, either way, how many breeders get a nice even litter? Hell, I feel privilaged! Lucky for me that a lot of clients were undecided until they met the pups, otherwise the demand would've killed me! LOL, thanks guys you always are a big help, Krista blueskyekennels@msn.com FOR PRESTON: Yep, got a website: http://blueskyekennel.tripod.com and so far, no shepherd, expecting our first working baby from PS and Wildsau lines around Decemeber 7th!
