Sara,

the 12 miles is not bad. We did ours in a giant grass field and I think would have been much easier on ME if it had been on
asphalt. LOL

Seriously though, if you practice it will become second nature. I would start out like VKGSDs did walking next to the bike with your
girl. Use a correction collar to correct off of whatever it is she is interested in and keep moving. It's difficult to describe how to
get them going next to the bike, but very simple to do. It takes practice, like learning how to ride a bike all over again. You need
good balance to make a correction on the go. I think you will do just fine :) You set your mind to what you want and you accomplish
it!

Maybe after I've done all the ADs on my own dogs, I'll start doing other peoples he he he :)

He he he, nope.. central North Carolina :)

It seriously was not as bad as I thought it would be. The last 3 laps (we did ours in an enormous field) were near muscle failure, but
I didn't hurt the day after. LOL It was actually very exhilirating

Melissa,

Well, I guess that is encouraging.....to say the least!!  Great job!!!!

I'm training two for ADs right now.  After one session of intro to the bike (1 mile walking, 1 mile riding/jogging) I recruited my DH to take one of the dogs.  The goal was to do 3 miles today, since both dogs have already jogged this distance in the past.  Unfortunately one dog was bleeding after only two miles so we walked him home on grass.  The other dog (the one I would've thought was more out of shape) was fine and seemed to enjoy it.  I'm a bit discouraged since I know our AD is on asphalt and I would've thought the dog's pads were already somewhat tough since he's been jogging 2-3 miles and he does flyball. Now he'll be out for several days.  As far as the bike training, IMO it's easy once you get on a trail or loop where you can maintain the speed and not worry about traffic or actual turns.  I live in the city so our half mile in and out is a nightmare of car traffic, people, loose dogs, etc.  We went to a cemetary with a loop that's about a half mile.
