Blitzen, if you look at the modern or contemporary w/ls, you will see that in silhouette they are practically indistinguishable from s/ls. Being argumentative and defensive doesn't accomplish anything constructive. I'm just wondering if choosing dogs with the extreme angulation (which is abnormal in nature) also brought with it the D/M gene. RS, if what I'm asking has any merrit, then the individual dog may not exhibit the conformation, but still has the bad gene?

OMG - is that previous post for real?

My dog had DM no tests were avalible unlike today, this is 30 yrs ago and he defo was not over angulated, IMO DM has nothing to do with angulation

Videx, certainly it's for real. Which part don't you find realistic; the part being argumentative and defensive is not productive, or that over angulation is not normal, or that maybe the DM gene came with the dogs selected with extreme angulation, or that silhouettes of some W/L and the S/L are "practically" indistinguishable, or that people are not allowed to ask questions?

My Czech WL has been sent out for DM results and I will report back what we get when we get it as he has some symptoms and, if anything, he is underangulated.
I think this thread seems to be more about "How do the current DNA test results available through OFA correlate with the symptoms - or even diagnosis (which I think is only 100% with a necropsy) of DM"
I would sure like to see it stay on track. Perhaps another thread would be good for genetic origens of DM but I don't think there is enough data out there yet to know other than it seems to cross all the lines.

Thanks, Nancy. That was my intent. Perhaps Joanro wants to start another thread about her questions.
I hope your dog doesn't test at risk and that there is something else going on that can be corrected.

Blitzen- I am out of town right now, but when I return I will find out the details on Shelby's DM test. My vet sent in the samples. Shelby, as you know, tested at risk/affected and she is definitely symptomatic. She is about 6 years of age and she has no other health issues. X-rays of hips and spine were taken. Hips are very good and she has no arthritis or spinal issues.
Joanro- Shelby is of the old style GSD- straight back and definitely not over angulated. I'm certain that an auto-immune neurological disease has absolutely nothing to do with structure.
