I purchased a female prior to having her bred, but kept her where she lived to have her bred, she came to me 4-5 weeks pregnant i have to think exactly but she is german showlines, took her right out of the crate in the airport area... talked to her like i knew her forever and she was fine.. i know she was trying to figure out what was going on... but i had no question about her... i put the crate in the van, put her back in, drove home 2 hrs, pulled in the driveway, open the gate and just let her out.. she seemed fine, brought her in the house told her to hop on the couch, she looked at me like i was insane at first LOL 5 minutes later she jumped up on the pull out bed and was kissing my son... who was 11 at the time... they were best buddies... was funny tho every time we went outside she would run to the gate she came in at.. and stand there like to say "hey.. ok... when am i going back to mom and dads" like thanks for the ride i am ready to go home now LOL she whelped 4 weeks later.. didnt even show any concern about me in the whelping box.. honestly i didnt need to be there, it was her 3rd litter.. to this day she doesnt need me but she lets me do whatever i want with those babies... since day one... good luck keep us posted!!

Max, even females that you know well take on a bit of a personality change while pregant. Most are "friendlier", but your girl's life has changed a lot in the past few days. Of course during the whelp she needs to feel safe and at absolute ease. I assume this is her first litter, which makes her a bit "strange" as well. I think once she is close to whelp that enough time will have passed that she is much more at ease. There are few, very few dogs who are at absolute ease in new surroundings, especially around new owners. She has to learn a new pack order-not easy for some dogs. All things considered, I think that she will be fine. Best of luck with your new girl and coming babies, Bob-O

I agree somewhat with most of these replies but after a week I would expect to see some improvement in her? Also, I would watch how she recovers from stress, for example if a sudden noise(gararge door closing) scares her how does she act a day later around the door? If she hangs on to stressors that's not a good sign. Please understand this is just my opinion and I have never seen this female so hopefully she keeps improving. Good luck

Hi Max, after all she is pregnant ...... just the fact that she is pregnant can trigger different behavior. They can be sweet and cuddeling, next hour act like they dont know you at all ! If you now add the fact that she just arrived at your home, the journey it does not surprise me a bit that she acts like you discribed. I guess you will do this litter with her, after the pups are out of the house, evaluate her again and hopefully you will come up with a result that pleases you. Best wishes for your litter. Good for you maximilian! And good for the female. She should be comfortable in her environment with her impending whelping coming up. Will make the whelping easier for everyone involved. Stephen
