Thanks to those who have given positive, non-arrogant, helpful advice. I take good care of our family pets, but they are "outside" dogs. And yes, they are completely in the shade, she was just digging right beside the house ....To the one who demands that I MAKE ROOM in my house for them I just have to ask...what did dogs do before people had air conditioned homes? You act like dogs were created in an air conditioned environment or something. To all of you other ones that have given positive suggestions...thanks...I'll be doing my best to use them. Trust me, I don't want to lose any more...I was very upset over the ones I lost.

Are you sure she's getting enough water and food to provide enough hydration for herself and therefore milk for all those pups? People often underestimate how many extra calories nursing requires and how much extra fluid intake. If it's especially hot out, she will need a ton of water; what are you feeding her and does she have access to unlimited water? Have you seen them nurse? Does she have enough milk? I'm not one to interfere, but you have to make sure the dog has everything she would have in nature in order to raise healthy pups. Is she loose or tied somewhere?

Point being, you do what you need to do for them, not just cast it aside because "we don't have the room". If it upset you so much to see them dying, you'd do something about it rather than sitting online asking questions, take the bitch to the vet, get her butt in the house where she and the pups can cool off (reality, your closet is better than having them out in the dirt to suffer in the heat - think about it), and deal with it until they are 8 weeks and you can find them new homes. Then, please alter both your animals because you aren't taking care of their offspring with the very least amount of compassion.

Used carpet has formaldhyde in it BIG TIME
Second of all
Purina dog food doesn't have any where near enough nutrition for any female with even 6 pups much less that many
If she was not on a special raw meat, some extra bones, and lots of non grain dog chow before she had the pups...she is nutritionaly void...Doubtful she has enough milk.
I am sorry for your loss... NO dog should just have pups in the dirt..Sorry but your dirt may have parvo in it also..
How long has this pen been used.
If she is not contained she may hide them all over and you may see dead pups every where.
Germans are very protective and very smart..If she thinks something is killing her pups she will bury them or hide them or move them many times..SHe may be a nervous dog..
Cannot tell , but with 28 yrs of breeding experience I can tell you ....german shepherds are not like other yard dogs..Their digestive systems are much different and need lots of good diet to keep a female in GOOD shape to feed that many pups.
I suggest you go buy a box of liver from WALMART..tALK TO THE HEAD BUTCHER.. He will round you up some raw liver, not frozen in his counter , till he can get you a box of it...start giving her a palm size piece two times a day ...then find a grain free dog food and change her gradually...not all at once.
DID you give her a dose of OXYTOCIN to make sure her afterbirth is all gone??
Check moms temperature...is she normal///
If it rains are they all gonna get wet..I just think you need to have a better safe place for the pups...
dogs cannot reason , we have to do it for them..And NO she is not in the wild..so she cannot take them and put them in a safe place...like you made mention of...she has bounderies and you must provide safe , healthy and a quiet place that she feels that her pups are ok in...SHE is telling you , listen to her..
Read up on Breeding a german shepherd in some German books, not American...
GOOD LUCK>.
Hope your dirt is free of any disease and you know if it is or not..
Parvo stays in dirt..
DID the mom get wormed before the litterl...?? If so , then that won't be the reason...PUPS borne with mega roundworms or heavy hook worm infestations die ..some upon first day some last a few weeks some last till they get wormed.
Lots of reasons the pups are dying..
Good luck

Moonshadow, I am sorry to hear about your pups. I am hoping mom and pups check out with the vet as healthy. Definitely get your male neutered as soon as possible; your female as well. I have a friend who breeds dogs and only does so when she has enough potential homes for all the pups. I was amazed when I added up the cost of one breeding, from impregnation to the pups going to their new homes. The work that goes into rearing a single litter and keeping all the dogs healthy and happy was an eye opener. You have some expenses ahead of you as well as lots of work, good luck.
