Thanks for the correction. I know I saw it on a bottle but I must be thinking of a different kind. I do know this, the kind you are talking about is the only kind I would use. I agree that sheep stuff is a totally different thing.

Just to clear up the above....do NOT INJECT the injectable Ivomec 1% ....it is to be used orally on dogs and I go with  .01 cc per 20#  once a month.
80# dog would be given .04 of 1 cc. per month orally.
Most  vets will not give this info willingly...they prefer to sell the scripts they have on hand, so they can make $ and be certain the client is doing what they suggest.
I have a red mark on my files due to my vaccination protocol and the fact that I don't buy heartworm preventative from them.

Be sure your dog isn't a carrier of the MDR1 gene or you could be risking the health of the dog... http://www.collienet.com/health%20topics/MDR1%20Gene%20defect.htm

the injectable can be injected in dogs and often is to treat sarcoptic mange

IVERMECTIN - This is one of the most effective treatments against Sarcoptes scabei yet is is off-label as far as the FDA is concerned. There are several protocols due to the very long activity of this drug in the body. Typically an injection is given either weekly or every two weeks in 1-4 doses. In most cases this treatment is safe and effective but some individuals have a mutation which makes ivermectin very toxic at the doses used to kill mites. These individuals are usually of the Collie family: Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs, and Australian Shepherds are classically affected. There is now a test that can determine if any dog has the mutation that makes ivermectin use dangerous. For more information on ivermectin use click here.

I buy the injectible but give it orally, I get it at the feed store, not that expensive and the bottle will last forever.  I have several that there is never a question of them leaving any food left in the bowl and are going to lick it clean because in their mind if you lick the bowl hard enough more food just might reappear :). For those guys I just squirt it on their food, the females aren't quite such piggies, I just squirt it in their mouth. .1 cc per 10 lbs so a 80 lb dog gets .8 cc.  To make sure you are getting an accurate dose insulin syringes are great.  My son has been a diabetic since he was 2 so I have them around but you can buy them in most states without a script at any pharmacy.  hope that helps.

The powdered ivermectin on Amazon is easier to measure and less chance of an overdose and has no unpleasant taste.

Amazon is out of stock of the powdered ivermectin that does not have to be diluted.  However one can get it on
 http://www.thomaslabs.com/thomaslabs/products/431-ivermectin.aspx

It has 1000 micrograms per 5 grams of powder.  The directions say one tsp is 5 grams, but a digital measure indicates 1 teaspoon is about 3 grams.

IVERMECTIN POWDER dosing based on:
Thomas Labs confirmed the product contains 1,000 mcg ivermectin per 5 grams powder.
*By actual weight: 1 tsp powder = 2.8 grams/560 mcg ivermectin

1 tsp (560 mcg): 155 - 205 lbs
3/4 tsp (420 mcg): 103 - 154 lbs
1/2 tsp (280 mcg): 52 - 102 lbs
1/4 tsp (140 mcg): 26 - 51 lbs
1/8 tsp (70 mcg): 1 - 25 lbs

Dosage Calculation: 2.72 mcg per pound of body weight
(See Heartgard information sheet)
(i.e. 30 lb dog x 2.72 = 81.6 mcg, dose 1/4 tsp/140 mcg)

Vonissk,

LOL, I think you are the reason it is sold out now at Amazon...You are the reason I use it!  Thank you so much again for turning me on to this simple solution.
