If you're coming on Saturday I could probably take some video for ya :) Provided you use my little bitty camcorded and

if the foundation is DDR and DDR traits are passed on to offspring I like to consider the dog of DDR orgin.

OK...dare I ask....hmmm, what DDR traits for us inquiring minds.....just asking!

Wasn't Sven's character a bit iffy or quirky in some way ?.

Never met Sven, but I love this dog, they share some of the old DDR bloodlines:

Last I heard Xander is working towards his ScH3

I took a VERY informal video of Xander when he was just starting to learn bitework,
he has always impressed me with his looks, temperament and drive.

Maggie is a great-grand-daughter of Sven, and she's a firecracker!
So far she is and has been one of the smartest pups I've ever had!

Tino seems to be a DDR dog that a lot of working-line breeders in Europe have begun to cross into their bloodlines. You'll see that several good-producing working kennels (e.g., Cap Arkona) have bred to Tino sons/daughters. This, to me, argues that he produced good working characteristics.

I haven't (yet) heard anything negative (or specifically positive) about Sven's working ability--although I believe his grandfather, Alf Kornersee, was known for passing on good working abilities. But it seems like Sven, already a dog who is heavily linebred, has been overused by some DDR breeders in Europe and thus he's now becoming a "roadblock" in breeding. I've also heard concerns about his hip production in certain breeding combinations. I suspect he was bred to for his good working abilities--because he was bred to a lot. Often if the stud dog does not pass on good qualities, he does not get many breedings. That doesn't mean that there are not also negatives associated with the dog.

AmbiiGSD that's a very nice looking dog.

Michael68, will you pay my gas? I may be in TN, but I'm about 5 hours away from the eastern TN border.

Melba, that would be great if you can get video of the dogs.

Thanks mirasmom for that vid, and your dog is beautiful as well.  Love that dark pigment.

Pharaoh, any videos of your guys? Or do you do Schutzhund, I can't remember.

I just wander about all of the "greats" or at least dogs who are widely used as studs, why aren't there videos.   Does anyone know if there were any videos of Tino working?

There seems to be a brief video of Tino on his working-dogs.eu pedigree page - I think you have to be a member to see it?

So since inquiring minds are asking I will state an observation, and this is clearly just an observation, It is not saying that other lines do not possess these traits just thought I'd put a disclaimer because I know how people read things.......... A DDR trait to me first coming from photographs taken of the BERLIN WALL and the dogs that protected it on the DDR or soviet side (EAST GERMANY) something common in these GSD include and not limited to Large massive heads, Comparitivly darker Pigmentation, Less angulation than west german show lines, heavy bone structure of course lineage that is EAST GERMAN but since all GSD come from the same pool with less than 100 years of breeding....... Just saying  ..... of course in my opinion........ since inquiring minds are asking...  a good article i came across a while ago.
