WOW is right, those are some great pics. Been trying to get mine to jump in my pool to no avail. That set up you went to was awesome. Was this his first time jumping into water like that? Anyway thanks for sharing some great shots of a good looking GSD!!! Pete

How did you get your dog to jump into the water? I looked at that link and also found a dock diving club that is holding an event in my city in a few weeks. Gonna take off from work and go have some fun. How was the event for beginners? Any tips you can give. We do the basic same thing but on sidewalk to play fetch. I introduced her to water she likes swimming but not sure how to get her to jump into the water and dont want to force her. Any tips would be great. thanx

The photos shown are from Sat & Sun - on Fri evening we went to open practice to get him used to the pool/ramp/dock and so on. We did that by guiding him up the ramp that goes in and out of the water and tossing what ever toy item you are using just a few feet in front of the dog, letting them get it and then figuring how to get back up the ramp. Manny took to it immediately and wanted to get down to business and start getting some air LOL. Our advantage was/is that this dog LOVES the water and is a very strong swimmer (if I trained him for it I think he could do water rescue, I have gone swimming with him and have had him tow me back to shore). Plus he will retrieve anything that is thrown for him and very eagerly anticipate you throwing it again. Sometimes I joke that he is actually a Lab trapped inside the body of a GSD. Me being a GSD/SchH person I was comparing the distance to that of the launch/air time during the courage/long bite and Manny was never very much of a high flyer type dog (more power then flight) but I have a female I'm going to try this with next time that loves to go airborne. She has gone swimming before but never showed a real strong interest in it but today I took her to the lake and she ran right in water and tried to bite a buoy that looked like a big jolly ball from the area around the boat launch.... so I guess I might have another dock diving candidate on my hands. I hope that answers your questions if you have more I'd be glad to help. The dock diving is cool but more then that swimming is such great joint safe exercise plus I really just like to have fun with my dogs -

And.... Thanks for the complements, I can't tell Manny thou or else he'll get an ego.... LOL
So all in all the best tips -
Make it fun take it slow, help the dog don't force the dog.
Show them what you want them to do and make it easy for them.
With how hot it has been once they realize how great it can feel all the better.
