TingiesandTails

I firmly believe pups are protected as long as they are nursed - the first shots already provide lots of protection for a small pup body. Week 1-4  requires lots of tactile stimulation (by the dam and the breeder) for the pups. Week 4-8 needs lots of socialization with other dogs and humans. Other dogs from the breeders household could be a start and lots of visitors (potential buyers for the pups) should come in anyway. Weeks 8-12 are very important to get out and learn a little more about the world outside. I would start puppy classes/ socialization with dogs from different packs/families at this time and take my pup everywhere, of course always supervised. At week 16 at the latest, the socialization and habituation phase, the window to learn in a curious manner closes. Of course there is ample opportunity to learn later, but the general state of mind how to approach new things has set by then.
I find it very alarming to see lots of fearful dog owners. It's the same with children. If you overprotect, probably out of good intentions, you raise fearful and probably obese creatures.

ok i met with this puppy today. there is a TON of issues. this pup will growl bark at 99% of people who aproach her  and then hide behind her handler.  i think some comes from the handler because she is afraid the dog will bite. the pup will snap at other dogs so far she just growls at people she pees when epople come near since a issue at the vet where the pup growled and the vet techs all held this 3 1/2 month old pup at the time down and muzzled her since then she pees when approached. she just has alot of issues and i feel most are from not socalizeing her at all.

GET AWAY FROM THE TRAINER AND FIND A NEW VET. GET YOUR BABY OUT AND GET HIM SOCIALIZED WITH THIS BIG WORLD THAT HE IS GOING TO HAVE TO GET USED TO! GOOD LUCK

im trying to convince my puppy parent that it is not a good idea to stay with this trainer he was rude to me in the first place and was saying crap about my schutzhund people then he gets all puffed up and brought out a dog he has on consignment and is all like this is a real dog bla bla i wish i had my sleeve i would show you how a real dog bites bla bla. i relly hate when people get that syndrome i guess i got alittle bit of it 2 in the back of my mind i thought just wait till my puppy grows up ill show you a good bite. lol.

im just relly hopeing this pup grows out of her fear problems but it dosent look like it the trainer is like well we cant totaly fix the problem you will always have to keep it in the back of your mind about her problem when it comes to trusting her around stuff

We start right away with our own pups. Usually getting them around other dogs in the Schutzhund club. As to clients wanting to bring their pups out here to our private dog park, we recommend 1 week after second set of shots, which generally puts the pup around 10 weeks old.

thank you all for your responces if she brings the pup today i will videotape the puppy and put it on here and see what people thing. i personaly have never seen a 4 month old puppy act this way. i have only seen dogs who have bin beaten

she is terrified in her own skin its the oddest thing i have ever seen.

ooo and one thing i relly disliked about this trainer every time the dog barked or growled at him he slapped the puppy insted of makeing the handler correct her. me personaly i think this would bring out more fear from the puppy and make her want to spite the man.

Have you considered buying the pup back from this woman? That will alleviate alot of problems now and down the road for you. AND the pup will get a chance at life. I would be very concerned for the dog and the fact that the owner isnt the right person for her.

I took in a kitten at 4 weeks (ugh not a good plan) that was abandon in a house with no human contact until I got him. What a mean sob this kitten is. I cant believe that Im having to socialize him just to get him placed. I would be grateful to take a puppy at this point.

Seriously though, buy the dog back. You'll be glad you did.
