I do both, I have 2 dogs here that were mircochipped on the same day and both chips are down over the left shoulder.
Here all are tattoos are registered with the GSDL and are easy to trace back to the breeder.

I chip every puppy with a Home Again chip, they are not supposed to migrate because of their design. None of the ones in my adult dogs or my three cats seem to have moved at all. Tattoos are no longer allowed in Germany and in order to ship anything to Germany the new USDA regulations say the chip has to have been implanted prior to the date of the last rabies vaccination, they have to have a chip to go to Germany, no matter the age, it is required.

Do you Guys do your own tattoo or Chipping the way i read some posts it reads that way, Over here we cannot at least in Belgium, A Guy comes round to officially Chip the Dogs and Pups which is then sent to Sint Hubertus in Brussels to be registered officially with The puppies name, of which must start with a certain Prefix letter. and address of the new owner
All this information is put on the Pedigree by that govening body and in time the pedigree is sent to the new owner, How does it work in the States

Steve, here in Oz the tattoo of the puppy will always be traced back to me the breeder and I retain all records and know exactly where the puppy belongs >>> That is unless the puppy has been moved on & owner has not informed me. Even still it would NOT be too hard to trace.

Both!!
I have had chips migrate and just plain old fail. Tattoos can be hard to trace BUT they tell you the dog came from a breeder and look
further by scanning. The object is to give the dog the best possible chance of getting home.

just received a pup late march from jinipo and he is tatooed.
having said that bob, i do both on my prood dogs. the pups and dogs that are placed have a tatoo as some police depts. don't want chips as it can interfer withh some of the eletronics as i am told.
tatoos are also cheaper way for i.d.
