 So Dub:

Then how would you call the WDA Nationals with only 17 entries...There Nationals for gods sake?.

From what I hear they were both run well.

by Duderino on 18 May 2011 - 13:05

I made no comparison, I made a statement of fact.  I spoke with someone who participated in the event and repeated (albeit from memory) what they told me.  Were you there?  BTW, my dog's better than your dog.

That's what I heard too, Judron.  While I wouldn't call a 30 team entry field gigantic, I sure wouldn't call it poor either, not in this country and not during these economic times anyway.  Anyway, congratulations to the winners and all the competitors, and to the host club for putting on a great event. On another note, does anyone know why this thread looks so wonky?

Guys
How many days would such a Selection trial be for the Handlers and Dogs, Duderino says 17 is not a lot, If he was one of the three Judges doing it he may think differently 17 dogs per phase for each Judge is a good days work
Sue says 30 is not a bad number how do you get one judge to do 30 dogs in one day, Or does it go over two days after a certain amount of entrants
Over here in Belgium we had 21 in the final selection trial a good days work for each judge and these Guys do not give a point unless it is earned there is no giving anything as it should be
the judge said to me after i said to him You were like Scrooge on the Points it was in Obedience, He said they were not worth any more and rightly to THey have to be hard but fair and select the very best after all the Countries reputation in the Dog Sport is in there hands, and they do a great job

Hi Steve:  Multiple days and multiple judges.  One for tracking, another for OB & Protection.  The WUSV qualification final selection trial that is going to be held in Kentucky in June will have 2 SV judges.  I believe the way it's being touted is the top 10 from USA and the top 10 from WDA will compete, but of course, it's very expensive to travel, entry fees, to say nothing of being able to take the time off work, just to compete in all the various trials that you have to in order just to qualify for the qualifier, so not necessarily  the best, but the more well heeled I suppose.

Hey duderino....

I had a great number of people speak  to me and said they had a great time.  They enjoyed the framed pictures given at the end of the event.   Yeah it was a small entry... but I dont recall a single entrant expressing any concerns to me specifically  about except for the weather.

I really think that most who attended enjoyed themselves.... you cant please everyone and it is crazy to think you can
and I am not really concerned that someone who was not there did not enjoy it...

In the words of Frank Zappa perhaps you should have a donut and stick closer to church orientated social activities
