we thought our male was gay because my female took to 25 days to have the right hormones and he wouldent mount her untill she was just right lol. and it was his second mateing. just relax if its going to happen it will if its not then pay a stud fee. lol

My female is 2 yrs. They both have had their hips xrayed via OFA.
Its not painful for him as he will jump in the yard, run, jump over things.. I had to watch that he wasn't jumping too much as a pup.
I just feel he may be inexperienced and what know what exactly to do. I have been keeping them together. I wont keep them together however when I am away. They both are crated in the same room. He doesn't even freak out to get to her....
Thanks everyone

nature is all he needs. she may not be ready.are you counting from the first sigh of color or just saying she has been in that long by her actions. my stud will sniff etc. and he won't even try and mount and waste his enegry until the female is ready.

"They both have had their hips xrayed via OFA"

OFA doesn't xray hips veterinarians do. OFA grades hips but only after 24 months of age.

If you don't know this then I wonder if you've actually done this or not.

they could of been pre lim OFA, well i can tell you that some males are just not ready till 2 years old, and then i have seen some ready at 18 months. it has alot to do with when he is mature enough, he should be nuts for your female if she is ready, and if she is flagging she is ready. i would just give the boy more time, he is probley not ready yet.

If you really want your female bred, suggest taking her to a a experience stud. You can use the male next time around when he is more mature.

I had an issue with a dud of a stud once. He would not get excited enough to get the job done sort of speak. I took my girl some where else & had a tie in less than 5 minutes.
That stud had few more attempts at mating to other females, he could not preform with them either. He was taken to the vet for a full check up, everything came back normal -?
He has only been able to breed AI, not enough get up & go to get the job done naturally.

But my vet gave this suggestions to try with the above stud:

Place your girl with a neutered teaser stud. A experience stud that will mount your girl, but is neuter. Have your young male in a place he can watch & get fustrated but can't disrupt the teaser male.
Your boy will learn what to do, get fustrated enough to do it & claim his girl back. Not a guarrantee to work, but does work majority of time with young dogs.

Your boy is still young so has time to figure out what to do. Give him the extra time he needs if above doesn't work. Take your girl to experience stud now for breeding, then next year try again with him.
Odds would be in his favor once she is experience now with mating.

Good luck

Sitasmom: Yes, Thank you very much. OFA has graded the xrays. My vet took them and sent them in. However you are wrong with the age. OFA will not certify a dog under the age of 24months but you can get prelim. results.

Thanks everyone else for the advice. I suppose I just wasn't giving him enough time. When I got home within a few minutes my male was mounting my female. They tied at 3:30 and apart at 3:38.
Thanks again to everyone!!!

Really, you are the owner of a breed worthy female.

Go get a top stud.

The whole idea of keeping just any male to breed is missing the whole point.

The stud is 50% of the genes of your pups.

WELL MY TEN MONTH OLD MALE MUST THINK HE IS SUPERMAN BECAUSE I HAD AN "OOPS" BREEDING WITH HIM AND MY THREE YEAR OLD FEMALE. HE SURELY DIDN'T NEED ANY HELP DOING HIS "THING". HE MOUNTED, THRUSTED, TIED, AND STAYED TIED FOR 24 MINUTES.
