Only you seem to consider it relevant apparently.

I repeat:

For whatever reason anyone chooses not to compete at any event, it becomes largely irrelevant to comment upon it and demean it by insinuating that the better dogs 'stayed at home'.

You cannot claim a better dog if it does not enter, to be judged alongside those that did.

You really should read my opening post much more carefully!

Clearly and emphatically relevant - please ensure you read the following paragraph:

"If anyone has any doubts or any disagreement with what I have written here, I suggest they look carefully at the actual entries and results of the major GSD Shows and Events held during the rest of 2011. Then you will have my comments here emphatically substantiated."

Both points may well be relevant but lets not forget that entry at Crufts requires qualification at a Championship show, and if the "vast majority of outstanding dogs" were not entered in what is billed as the best dog show in the world then I guess their owners have their reasons.

I for one hope that single breed championship shows are not the only places to see those outstanding dogs, Joe Public goes to Crufts and other mixed breed shows to look at dogs and leaves with an opinion based on what is shown.

The Kennel Club needs to get its act together then to avoid "single breed championship shows being the only shows to see the "vast majority of outstanding dogs".

Who do you think appoints the Crufts Judge for GSD? = The Kennel Club! Do you think the GSD Breed Council and the GSD League would select most of the GSD Judges at Crufts?

Wait until someone writes the name of the GSD Judge for Crufts 2012 on this site (I hear it is W. Petrie), and then the Crufts GSD Judge for 2013 (I hear it is Roy Brandon), and then fully understand why?

It's obvious that the dogs that did not turn up are not as good or the owners thought they would get beat. The fact that correct GSD types went under gary grey a judge by the way who I have never seen with a proper Gsd type.Miss B. the tv's expert commentator referred to gray as an expert in the breed, after last year that really  shows what she knows. No, Elmo looked a picture tonight and did the breed proud.Hopefully Videx you carry on trying to get to that standard, maybe one day you will get there.

Sure, lots of dogs stayed away, and that was their choice (largely based on who the judge was I would think).  Must have been a surprise that Elmo went BOB under GG. Although he is one of the best dogs that SL currently has to offer IMO.

Plenty of excellent dogs don't enter the GSDL/WUSV events either. Who stays away at either is entirely irrelevant, and is merely a reflection of the fragmentation of the GSD world.

Why these other dogs weren't entered is down to personal choice. Could be the generalised hatred of the KC, could be the judge, could be that many may be considered too extreme.

Bottom line to all this is that some wish to compete at Crufts, some don't want anything to do with the KC, but only wish to compete in WUSV style shows. Everyone has a choice to enter what they will.

Most top GSD owners place significance on whether they value the Judges opinion of their dog.
'arbeiter' (anonymous) again ignores facts, because they don't suit his 'angle' - as usual it's twisted. Wont bother enlightening you!

For me Crufts is just another KC Championship Show and with that goes the uncertainty of our breed receiving the correct level of judging necessary.  Why risk your dogs and your own reputation in that sort of lottery.  I have refused to lower the flag under an all rounder by giving an entry, handling a dog or visiting Crufts, or, any other All Breed Championship show since 1978.  The way forward was obvious all those years ago.

The best of our breed will only be seen at specialist shows under specialist judges who really know what they are doing.

 Summed up perfectly Mackenzie.

For the life of me I cannot understand what was in the owners and connections mind to bring the German Sieger Zamp v Thermados to Crufts.  After reaching the absolute top level in Germany against some two hundred plus dogs and then to come to Crufts to compete against so few other males is beyond belief.  Apart from pot hunting it demeaned the dogs reputation.

I am not a fan of Zamp but he deserved better.
