Crybuck,

It always gets me when I hear people preach about how good this super expensive food they feed their dog is, then I see the stools in the yard, just puddles of foul smelling goo...It's not digesting, it's not good for your dog, change the food!

I'm not by any means an expert on dog nutrition, but what I've found with Orijen is during weeks of low activity (not often)  my dogs stool is softer. Could this mean the food has to much nutrience for less active dogs and they just pass what they don't need?

Yes you are on track, feed the dog less when it is doing less.

When my dogs were on Orijen, the stools were smal very firm, & nearly odorless; & they turned white & crumbly in just a few days...which I thought was a sign of a highly digestable food. Plus there was no stool eating....when we used RC the stools were large, loose, & smelly.....disgusting! jackie harris

Hero has a very delicate system and is doing VERY well on Orijen - original and red combined.
Most of my other dogs do very well with Natures Domain - turkey and Taste of the Wild bison, duck or lamb
My old dog Aussie is happy on an inexpensive senior dog food, only because she likes it and after 12 years i spoil her. I have a young working line dog that does better on Purina One - Lamb and Rice. the richer feeds cause her issues.
Every dog is different, you don't necessarily need a very expensive food, but you need to watch closely and monitor your dog's health to ensure that the food you do feed has what your dog needs.

My pup does great on Orijen. She has been on the adult formula since 10 weeks. Her adult fur is coming in and it is thick, healthy, and shiny. Her stool is relatively small and firm. It does kinda smell though.

I am probably going to get a small bag of Origen Red to serve with green tripe.
