I have never used Hokamix as I have managed my dogs really severe HD for 7 yrs with High Strength Glucosamine/Chondroitin, Green Lipped Mussel Extract and max strength Cod Liver Oil capsules [all available from a well known UK supplier]  as the supplements fed,  plus sardines in sunflower oil 3-4 times a week.

I can thoroughly recommend a course of Cartrophen injections, one a week for 4 weeks followed by 4 sessions of acupuncture.

Cartrophen can either be topped up with one 2 monthly injection or wait 6-9 months and go through the course of one a week for 4 weeks. Some people I know and my own vet say, wait until the obvious discomfort shows again, then have acupuncture first before going down the route of Cartrophen jabs. I might add that during the time Cartrophen injections were given, I had to stop giving Metacam, but had to re-start it before acupuncture and still give it now. I now have a dog that has got a second lease in life who runs and plays as she did when she was 5 yrs old, before the horrible arthritis set in, she is now over seven and a half years old, but best of all she has built up more muscle on her rear end than she has ever had before.

BTW jessiejames, are you sure you aren't confusing georgehopwood with Cesar Millan?  I saw a Dog Whisperer episode where he recommended feeding bananas for lacking in potassium

I will second what ziegenfarm said about Joint Strong. I used that on my old working line male. He did really well on it. He lived to be a little over 12. He was sore and stiff until I put him on the Joint Strong..... after being on the Joint Strong for a few weeks it made a MAJOR improvement.

Many human grade glucosamine/chondroitin products have been exposed for not having the advertised level of product.  The pet supplement market is even less regulated.  Don't throw your money in the toilet.  Natural diet with natural sources of these ingredients are available.  Listen to  Prager Hans.

Are yoU saying to give a banana to a dog with EPI ??

How does that work ??

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I have a lot of options to consider but it seems that most everyone has found something that worked for them, which means there are a lot of good options available.

I use Glucosamine and Condroiten with MSN, i also use Devils claw, this help my dog,he had been put onto metacam by the vets for his hips but it makes the boy sick, so i stopped using it, the combination has helped keep chevy pain free and mobile
he is 7.5 yrs old now and still runs and jumps with the youngsters with no problem, keeping the hip joints tight with good muscle will help too, good exercise is water reduces the weight strain but the muscles work harder too
Too many dogs with HD get reduced exercise allowing the joints to move too freely thus allowing damage to the joint's.
Hope you have results with your dog, Not all are the same so what works for some may not work for others so its trial and error, good luck and keep us posted on how things are going :)
I have used Hokamix in the past but its wasn't as good as my own mix

I had amazing results with a dog with all four joints bad. We gave her Dasuquin.   None of the other supplements we tried worked as well.

Cosequin or Dasuquin, Dog Gone Pain
