Wait a minute....the AKC does not register owner surrenders. Are you saying they were in a rescue, or did a private person have them?

<snort> the AKC registers anything that has papers, a signature and a check attached. If the dogs were surrendered with their signed papers, their puppies can be registered AKC - rescue or not.

Not if the AKC KNOWS about it! You have to sneak and lie!
Thank you for contacting the American Kennel Club (AKC(r)). The dog in question is not eligible for registration. AKC papers are not transferable on dogs that are obtained from a shelter or rescue organization. AKC Procedures forRegistration Matters states in Chapter 1 Section D:
"Dogs Acquired From Humane Society or Similar Organization: The American Kennel Club does not provide registration service for dogs acquired from Protective Leagues, Humane Societies or similar organizations.
Also, when a dog is turned over to a Humane Society or similar
organization, it should be understood that AKC papers will not be transferred."
Note: If you have a purebred dog that cannot be registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC(r)) and you are interested in participating in AKC events, you may want to consider enrolling your dog in our Purebred Alternative Listing program (PAL/ILP). You can find out more about the PAL/ILP and the requirements for enrollment at
http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm.

I am not all that knowledgeable but the lady who does this rescue is not an actual "organization". We live in a very very rural area and she only takes in a few select dogs that she approves of. She is not affiliated with the county animal shelter but they will recommend her if you dont want your animal euthanized. She takes in donations when she places the animal but its not required. She does work for a vet and he does her spay/neuter. She said they were registerable, I saw the litter application. She said the owner surrendered the dogs and I have no reason not to believe her, I know others who have gotten registered dogs from her.
I dont think she would lie, but who knows. I dont plan to show it in any AKC event anyway so registration isnt really important other than verifying that it comes from where she said it does.

I wouldn't say she was lying either, but I'd say that it is NOT particularly ethical to sell puppies that have been surrendered and then register them. What she should have done is put the dog's name on, and its description, and then send it out with a photocopy of the papers, not the real deal, and unsigned. That way the "adopters" know what they are getting but cannot register the dogs.
