Funny that most of this good stuff has started happening since I got rid of my so-called business partner. (She had no money invested in the kennel as she didn't HAVE any.) We also didn't have a very good relationship, and after she left, I found out she'd been badmouthing me behind my back.
It's like I got rid of an anchor that was weighing me down when she left!
Yesterday, I had a new client come in with a husky. He was not really the sort of customer I relate to (he was driving a Corvette, and had the sort of attitude that often goes along with that.) Anyway, he LOVED the place, and said he'd heard really good things about it and me over at the local dog park!
I guess only really experienced dog people notice the drainage channel that runs from one pen to the next, and that there are no barriers between runs to prevent fence-fighting, plus many of the supports for runs are made of wood, which can't be cleaned as thoroughly as metal.
These things used to really worry me when I first bought the place. But now, everyone watches Cesar on TV, and sees his dogs playing together in a big pack, so they just don't worry about their dogs catching something, or getting into fights! So, I stopped worrying, and put in a 4000 ft. fenced play area, to allow the big dogs to really stretch their legs!
If someone wants their dog to play with others, I test them out with my female GSD first, as I have never, ever seen her get into a fight. So far, so good. I can usually spot a 'bad actor' as soon as he/she comes in, by their behaviour towards thedogs in the adjacent runs. When the visiting dog is first turned out with mine, he/she is on a 30 ft. lunge line, so I have some control.
Here's a link that shows all the renovations I've done. (Well, MOST of them!)
To say the place has been a money pit is putting it mildly!
